ONE LAST LOOK AT 2008
December 28th 2008 21:25
Well, what do you know? Just like that, 366 days have already passed. 2008 is ending and we are now on entering 2009.
Let’s start with some of the celebrities who will never entertain us again because they departed from us:
Heath Ledger: January 22nd, died from an accidental toxic combination of prescription drugs at 28.
Sydney Pollack: May 26th, died of stomach cancer at 73.
Bernie Mac: August 09th, died due to complications from pneumonia at 50.
Paul Newman: September 26th, died due to complications from lung cancer at 83.
Miriam Makeba: November 10th, died of a heart attack at 76.
Paul Benedict: December 01st, cause of death still unknown, at 70.
The weird thing about celebrities’ death is that we don’t really know them other than the sides they allow us to see and to them we are like a drop in an ocean of fans; despite that, when they leave, we can’t help but feel some pain deep in our hearts as if it was someone really closer to us who had died. Anyway, they will be forever immortalized thru their work and will always remember them.
Celebrities who lost people close to them are:
Jennifer Hudson: Her mother, brother and 7-year old nephew were killed by her brother-in-law on October 24th.
Macaulay Culkin: His sister, Dakota, died in a traffic accident on December 09th at 29.
President-elect Barack Obama: His grandmother (on his mother’s side) died of cancer on November 03rd at 86.
On a lighter note now, when some people leave, new ones come. There has been quiet a celebrity baby boom this year:
Nicole Richie had a girl, Harlow Winter Kate Madden, on January 11th;
Christina Aguilera had a boy, Liron Bratman, on January 12th;
Jennifer Lopez had a boy and a girl, Emme and Max, on February 22nd;
Halle Berry had a girl Nahla Aubry, on March 16th,
Cate Blanchett had a boy, Ben, on April 13th;
Jessica Alba had a girl, Honor Marie Warren, June 07th;
Tori Spelling had a girl, Stella, on June 09th;
Jamie Lynn Spears had a girl, Maddie Briann, on June 19th;
Nicole Kidman had a girl, Sunday Rose, July 07th;
Matthew McConaughey had a boy, Levi, on Juky 07th;
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had a boy and a girl, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, on July 12th – The most awaited celebrity babies.
Matt Damon had a girl, Gia Zavala, on August 20th;
Gwen Stefani had a son, Zuma Nesta Rock, on August 21st;
Lisa Marie Presley had twin girls, Finley and Harper, on October 07th;
Adam Sandler had a girl, Sunny Madeline, on November 02nd,
Ashlee Simpson has a boy, Bronx Mowgli, on November 20th.
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are expecting another child. Celebrities trying are Eva Longoria, Jennifer Aniston and Paris Hilton – Am I the only one terrified?
The two most awaited movie of the year, The Dark Knight ($530,833,780) and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ($317,023,851), performed well and are first and third, respectively, highest grossing movies of the year.
Now we are waiting with great impatience for Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (January 23rd), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (May 01st) and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (June 26th).
This year we were spoiled with a 24 movie, 24: Redemption, but should get read to say goodbye to Lost.
I think that 2008 will mostly be remembered as the year an African American was elected, for the first time, as President of the United States of America.
If you didn’t manage to realize what you planned in 2008, think of 2009 as a new start when you will apply your New Year initiative and realize your dreams. And Remember don’t drink (alcohol) then drive – drinking and driving is also illegal and dangerous by the way – eat responsibly – you don’t want this to be your last New Year celebration by sending your cholesterol level to the roof – be careful with lights, candles and fireworks unless you want to be homeless, get a trip to the hospital or host a funeral the next day.
Happy 2009!!!
