One Down: More to Come... Music that Changes Your Life
January 12th 2008 05:43
I recently realized that I have been hanging with Orble for One Year. Wow that is quite a commitment if I say so myself. My first entry was logged Christmas Eve 2006 First log entry. So after 367 posts and almost 3000 comments, here are some questions I would like to pose to you guys in honor of this auspicious occasion:
Do you believe that music can change your life? Ever heard those 2 or 3 minutes of music where it really makes you think? As if it changed your life and influences you in such a powerful way? What about one single song? Can it leave an indelible footprint on your life?
Enough to make you change your ways?
Here is mine... Wayfaring Stranger: Bill Monroe
My favorite updated version sung by Jack White
I am continually surprised when anyone visits and takes the time to comment and am grateful for everyone I have met. Thanks: Cib, MNG, James, Bryn, Nonymous, Damo, Tracy, Kylie, Dusk, Lilla, Katyzzz, Ash, Jonathon, David, Mrs. M, Yoda, Kleo, Michalie, Melissa, Brenton, JD, Bo, and all the countless others who have stopped by and have shared their love of music with me

Space - Female of the Species
The Go-betweens - Love is a sign
Nick Cave - Into my arms
The Smiths - There is a light that never goes out
The Cure - A night like this

Love knows no bounds - and I suspect the reason everyone continues to visit is because they not only share your love not only music - but simply love your passion, style and commitment.
. . . to the topic at hand however.
Don't ask me why - but the Eagles "Heartache Tonight" was a real turning point for me as a teen.
. . . and despite the reason behind this legacy - I still love the song.
Congrats on 12 months of Orbling - and as I always say "It's nice to know nice people".

Thanks so much for the shout out. You are so right. It is difficult to narrow down one song that changed us. It is my point of view that we "hear" songs differently as time changes, we change, or our circumstance changes.
I love music--all kinds--and there have been so many that have influenced me or broadened my thinking.
James it certainly shows in your comments. I get a kick out of your comments. Thanks so much again for gracing me with your smarty pantsness!
Believe it or not--the first song to influence me came when I was really young and heard the original version of Last Kiss, it really made me respect what a car can do!
HAHAHAHA!

Your kind words mean so much to me. Thanks for that. I am truly honored. I really dig music connections I have made in my life....people, places, and events. People seem to remember their first kiss, car, job, school experiences as measured by the music they were listening to at the time.

Isn't funny how songs become an indelible part of our history?

Back at 'ya!

It's been great to have you around, Mis! You've really brightened the atmosphere in the Orble community!
I don't know what it is about Jack White - he's not the type of musician I would normally like, but I find that everything he gets his hands on, I like!

Flashes of memories
wow a year already? My word how time flies!
It has been excellent to get to know you over the cyberspace that now connects our worlds. Many, many thanks for bringing your smiling self into our lives and sharing your love of music. I have got to know some great new bands through your posts as well and learned some valuable life lessons on your Hipnotherapy pages. I reckon you would be the one therapist that restores my faith in therapists!
Music definitely touches me... sometimes I can hear a song and be brought to tears or fits of giggles as a memory associated with it comes rip roaring back. I couldn`t imagine a world without music.
Rock on sistah!

One year young!!!
There are so many songs...most of are like triggers now.
They trigger my memory back to when....
Listening to Slippery When Wet takes me back to when I was 13 and had my whole life ahead of me....
Listening to You Oughta Know takes me back to a time when I was so broken hearted and mad that I couldn't find the words...but Alanis did.
Johnny 99 (Springsteen)
Badlands (Springsteen) especially the line
Poor man wanna be rich
Rich man wanna be king
And a king ain't satisfied
Till he rules everything
Grease ( the entire thing)
ABBA - when I was about 4 and my siblings were at school and mum was out the back working at her sewing machine, I passed my time listening and dancing to ABBA. That album has so many scratches on it. Ah vinyl....
I remember watching High Fidelity and John Cusack's character was re-arranging his album collection autobiographically....that was seems like a cool idea.
Love & stuff
