On Relationships and Love

I think of love as a camp fire that two people build together. After you find a good spot to start (attraction to one another), you place your tinder and build your stone ring (flirting), then one or both of you lights it with a spark (chemistry). If you've both offered adequate effort, the embers will glow, and you'll have a small fire. As you keep adding fuel to that fire (getting to know each other), it grows, until you have a full-sized camp fire (love).
The flame will rise and fall as you fall more in love with each other and experience hardships. As long as you both keep working at it-- and all love DOES require work to maintain-- your flame will burn continually. Sure, mother nature (chance, life) often has something to say about it-- perhaps a torrential rainstorm (REALLY bad shit happening between you), or even a tornado will put it out (unreconcileable hurt to one another), but you can always build it back up IF you choose to (i.e. If you decide it's worth it to do so).
If even one of you gets bored, however, and leaves the fire unattended, it will start to die. One person can only keep the fire alive for so long by themselves, and then they will get tired, and then they will be unwilling or unABLE to continue to fuel the flame. It's too much work to keep a fire going forever by oneself. With only one attendant, it WILL die, eventually. If you both decide to leave the fire, it will die quickly.
The kind of love I'm looking for, however, is like a camp fire gone out of control. I want to build a bonfire with a woman who wants the same, and I want it to collapse onto the ground, rush across the grass, and set the entire forest ablaze. Sure, the forest may not burn forever, but we'll always have our little campfire, in the end-- and we will have experienced a blazing forest fire together, to keep in our memories for the rest of our days.
I may be a procrastinator, I may even be downright lazy, but I'm still as passionate as any Don Juan.
