Oklahoma's Corey Wilson On Path To Recovery
August 7th 2009 05:22
The thoughts and prayers of countless Oklahoma fans have been with wide receiver Corey Wilson ever since his car accident back in February.
On the 27th of the second month of this year, Wilson was involved in an accident which caused him to be thrown from his SUV and receive several serious injuries. These injuries caused the lower part of his body to become paralyzed.
Every Sooner fan will remember the final home game of the season last year, where Oklahoma crushed Texas Tech 65-21 with a Big 12 Championship on the line. The entire stadium was jumping and screaming at the top of their lungs, an electric atmosphere not many have ever seen in the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. It was also Wilson's last time to run onto Owen Field before he couldn't run anymore.
For the first time, after months of requested privacy, Corey allowed four members of the media to accompany him to physical therapy at the OUHSC College of Allied Health in Oklahoma City.
He has been undergoing physcial therapy to restore mobility back to his legs. He understands that his loife has been changed forever, but he is trying to get it back to as normal as it can be. He says he has hung his hat on the support of his family, friends, and faith.
He also sais OU head football coach Bob Stoops had been like a father to him during this time, bringing his breakfast every day when he wqas first admitted to OUHSC.
He has not read all of the fan letters and cards yet, only when he is ready to read them.
He says his goal is to walk back onto Owen Field. I call on every Sooner fan to cheer for him like you've never cheered before once that day comes.
And it's coming soon. Keep the faith.
