NFL Linebacker Ranking

July 23rd 2010 13:59
1-T. Ray Lewis (ILB) – Ray Lewis is still the best, despite his age.

1-T. Patrick Willis (ILB) – The best player on defense physically.

3-T. DeMarcus Ware (OLB) – Best rusher from the LB position today, doesn't
cover as well as he could though.

3-T. London Fletcher (MLB) – If anybody’s underrated in sports, it’s this guy.

5. Bart Scott (ILB) – Should help the Jets get to the Super Bowl this year.

6. Lofa Tatupu (MLB) – Very good, just plays on a bad team.

7-T. David Harris (ILB) – He needs a new contract, now.

7-T. Jon Beason (MLB) – Heart of the Panther’s defense.

9. DeMeco Ryans (MLB) – The heart of the Texans, don’t understand why they were trying to trade him.

10. Lance Briggs (OLB) – The best complete OLB.

11. Jerod Mayo (ILB) – The cornerstone LB of the Patriots.

12. Jonathan Vilma (MLB) – Super Bowl champion, was one of the few people doing something on defense.

13. Terrell Suggs (OLB) – One of the best OLBs in the NFL, paid like one too.

14. Shaun Phillips (OLB) – Now that Cromartie and Jamal Williams are gone, he’ll have to step up even more now.

15. Elvis Dumervil (OLB) – Basically like a second DE from the LB spot.

16. Rolando McClain (MLB) – Probably the top 3 most pro-ready players of this draft, should make an immediate impact for the Raiders.

17. James Harrison (OLB) – All he is is the blitz. Way overrated in my opinion.

18. Bryan Urlacher (MLB) – Getting old and injuries are starting to get him now. He’s still good, just not great any more.

19. Joey Porter (OLB) – This guy plays like he’s still 28 years old.

20. Brian Cushing (OLB) – Despite eligibly using illegal substances, even though the team knew about it, he is the undisputed RDPOY, and still a heck of a player.

Comment if you think I missed something.

Team Review: Baltimore Ravens

June 13th 2010 21:28
First off, hey everyone, I’m sorry for not posting for a long while, my internet broke down and I just got done fixing it. Bad news though, I’ll be moving next Monday which means, no posting for a while most likely again. Anyways, you guys aren’t interested in this, so here’s the real reason you’re reading this.

Quarterback: Joe Flacco is a very good quarterback, even if he only had Mason at receiver. Although to be fair, he does have Heap, but he's slowly ageing. He also has one of the better, if not one of the best, protections in the league and Ray Rice and Willis McGahee at his disposal, which is one of the best running crew in the league today, and play actions will make the difference. He will be better now with more experience and with Dante’ Stallworth and Anquan Boldin at receivers.

Grade: A-

Running back: Ray Rice, Willis McGahee, and fullback Le’Ron McClain are some of the best running backs in the NFL today. McGahee is underrated due to Ray Rice, who easily cracks the top 5 RBs today, starting. We all saw what happened to the Raiders when McGahee took over. Le’Ron McClain is the best lead blocking fullback today. He reminds me a little of Lorenzo Neal with L.T., and he’s a big part of the reason Ray Rice has been so successful. With some of the best blocking in the league too, easily in my opinion, the best running crew in the league.

Grade: A

Receivers: Anquan Boldin, Donte’ Stallworth, Derrick Mason, Todd Heap, Mark Clayton, and Demetrius Williams will do great this year, thanks to a very good QB, very good running game, very good blocking, experience between the top 3 receiver and the TE, which will be passed on to Clayton and Williams. They will do very good, and for 4th 5th receivers, Clayton and Williams will have a lot of success, but they won’t get much playing time if they do at all.

Grade: B

Offensive line: Easily one of the best, and they have proved it last year with great pass protection and great run blocking.

Grade: A-

Defensive line: Ngata Haloti at NT/DE, Gregg Kelly at DT, and newly addition of Terrence Cody at DT from Alabama, and this boy can play, and Trevor Pryce at DE, they will be at worst average this year.

Grade: B

Linebackers: Ok, I shouldn’t even have to write about this but I will anyways. Ray Lewis, Sergio Kindle, and underrated Tavares Gooden will, like they always do, dominate. Period. Tavares came out from Miami U, and played for 3 years under Ray, which means he’ll be heck of a lot great also. And any time you get a LB from Miami, you know they’re the real stuff. They will dominate, but it seems like to me they’ll be playing a lot of 4-3 defense, which means Tavares might or might not play a whole lot, which means weak link out.

Grade: A

Defensive backs: Safeties Ed Reed and Dawan Landry are one of the best safety crews in the game. Domonique Foxworth and Fabian Washington are average at best CBs, and Fabian, maybe a little better than average at best. Ed and Dawan will help out a lot, but there’s a limit to how much they can help, so this will be the weakest point of the team.

Grade: B-, but sooo close to dropping to C because of CBs.

Kicker: Sigh, this position has been the thing that’s killed the Ravens last year. If I remember, they lost maybe 2~4 games due to terrible kickers. They need a good kicker. Fast.

Grade: D

Punter: Sam Koch will help a lot when the O can’t get it done. He’s an asset to have.

Grade: B

Return game: Lardarius Webb is an underrated returner, since there are so many others putting up so much points and getting all the attention like Rice. Also, Ed Reed contributes at times, and he’s pretty effective.

Grade: B-

Each unit, I grade them as this:

Passing game: A-
Running game: A
Pass defense: B
Run defense: A

This team has a lot of great leaders, such as Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, and Sergio and Dante’ won’t have much, if any, problems at all now, and this is a mix of some young and some old. This team will go far into the playoffs this year to say the least.

Overall team grade: B by average (86.7 by averaging), how it will work with chemistry and such, I grade them A-, Aish. Pretty close.

Racism in the NFL Draft

April 22nd 2010 14:23
Hello readers, first off, let me introduce myself. My name is O.J. Lewis, and I’m from California, I love USC and Miami, and my favorite NFL teams are the Ravens, Chargers, 49ers, and the Jets. My favorite player is Ray Lewis, and my favorite coach would have to be either Bill Belichick or Rex Ryan. And as Joe said, I’ll be writing about football, both college and NFL. It’s nice to be here and thank you all for reading my articles, and thank you Joe for giving me the chance to work with you.

Third in the state of California in total rushing with 9,662 career rushing yards in high school. Gatorade California Player of the Year. 1,136 rushing yards averaging 5.4 YDs per carries and 15 rushing TDs as a junior in college. 1,871 rushing yards averaging 5.5YDs per carries and 28 rushing TDs as a senior in college. The closest runner up for the Hiesman Trophy in history to Mark Ingram. Doesn’t that resume seem like that person proved himself already? Well, apparently not.

Well, that's what they're telling Toby Gerhart. It can’t be about him being too slow (a little below average 4.5 in the 40, I mean, it is the offseason and all, you can’t expect him to still be on a super strict diet and training schedule, and he also ran a 4.4 in HS and during football seasons), since if you see him actually play like I did when I was watching the USC game, he’s a very fast player. Maybe not C.J. Spiller or Chris Johnson fast, but fast enough to be a RB at the next level. He leveled LBs such as Clay Matthews and Brian Cushing as a junior, so you know he’s got the strength. He’s 6’1, 235 lbs, so it can’t be his size. It can’t be his intelligence, since, really? Did I even have to mention this? He’s from Stanford! So since it isn’t his speed, strength, size, or intelligence, what can it be? Being injury prone? I mean, going against the likes of Brian Cushing, Rey Maualuga, Clay Matthews, and Taylor Mays and such for the last two years and not being injured other than a knee injury, which you really can’t help as a RB when defenders dive at your legs and such.

So what is the thing that makes him lesser than other running backs? He’s white. Even as he was coming out of high school, there were questions of him being able to play at the next level. The receiver of the Gatorade California Player of the Year. He was also recruited by USC, Tailback U, but when he asked about him playing RB there, USC told Gerhart they might give him a chance to try out at that spot, but basically told him they were looking at him as only a LB. Now look at Gerhart compared to USC’s RBs.

This racism, is an unfair, and an ugly thing. White running backs, white receivers, black quarterbacks, they all get negative responses since, we’re all used black RBs, black WRs, white QBs, and such being the norm. Like Troy Smith, the ’06 Hiesman Trophy winner from Ohio State. His career passing stats being 420/670 passes completed, which is 62.7% for 5,720 YDs, 54 TDs, 13 Ints, and 159.72 QB rating, and his rushing stats being 1,197 YDs on 283 attempts, averaging 4.2 YDs per carry for 14 total TDs. He was drafted in the 5th round, being pick no. 174. The only question was about his height at 6 feet. That’s the same height at Drew Brees. A Heisman winner would probably be even considered around 2nd ~ 3rd round at least normally, wouldn’t you think?

So what I’m saying is, Gerhart shouldn’t be overlooked just because of his race. Nobody should. We are all human beings. Just remember, whoever you’re talking about is human before he, or she, is his, or her, own nationality and such.

on Terrell Owens and Ochocinco Unite

Geez Joe, you got to this before I did! But the T.Ochocinco show will dominate! I think their chemistry will be great since T.O.'s always trying to steal the show and since him and Ochocinco will be fighting to get that TD, he'll try harder and I don't think he'll be mad when he doesn't get the ball, instead, I think him and Chad will have that "I'm getting it next time, you know that right?" and the friendly competition trash talking to motivate themselves.
But on the sad part, Jack "The Assassin" Tatum's passing away is tradgic, being only 61 and all.
Good luck to his family, God bless you guys.

C'mon now Joe, Elvis at second? Suggs over Ray Lewis? I think you're leaning way too far for the younger players and especially for the blitzers. This is a linebackers list, not a blitzers list, this should rate the best linebackers, c'mon. I believe Beason's rated way too high, Patrick Willis can be argued for to be the best over Ray, but Ray should never go below 2nd.

Ok, first of all, I'm biased? There's only two players from the Ravens, and one who used to play for them. There are three current players with the Jets, and one former Jet. There are two Texans, and there are two Bears, so I don't see how I'm biased towards the Ravens. If I was actually being biased, I would've put Adalius Thomas in the top 15, Sergio Kindle in the top 15, Jerret Johnson in the top 10, Suggs in the top 8, and Ray Lewis definately for no. 1 untied. And this is a LINEBACKERS list, not a blitzer from the LB position list, so I judged on who's the best at EVERYTHING a LB does, and guess what, Ray Lewis does, but Patrick Willis does it alone so that's why he's tied for 1st. Just because Ray Lewis is old doesn't mean he's not one of the best anymore, so are you telling me Peyton Manning's not one of the best? Tom Brady's not? Brett Favre wasn't one of the best last year and possibly this year too? So before you come here anonymous and post dumb things like that, first of all, have your facts straight, second of all, explain how I am, and third, don't come anonymous, obviously, if you know about this site, you probably have an Orble account, so posting it anonymous makes me think you're either a punk or don't even know what you're talking about, so go home kid.

Everybody in the NFL has weapon-like potentials. Peyton could take the guys from Green Bay and probably make them into what Garcon was. Finley wasn't really that bad. I'd really argue the spots though. I think Rogers should be around 7 since really, he plays weak secondaries 6 times a year at least every year, if Peyton played the same teams, his stats would be even better I think.

Yes, I agree with the MVP thing. I totally went for Favre (a little bit of mancrush too but hey, it's Favre), and he did deserve it along with Comeback Player of the Year. Brady did not deserve it as much as even Vince Young. Yea, Rogers doesn't have the O-line, in fact, they're terrible, but, he does have a running game that's somewhat even feared so his PAs are really effective, but Peyton doesn't have the PA. Although, he does have the best pass blocking line in the league. Peyton made them weapons, they wouldn't have been weapons on teams like the Packers. I don't know, I don't really like Rogers too much, I think it's cause he took the starting job from Favre, and it was a heartbreaker. I don't think he'll be a HOF anyday, but I think he will have a very good career.

Paul is amazing, but I just think Durant's better, but that's my opinion. LeBron's only thing on defense is the block from behind on fastbreaks, which really doesn't count as defense. He's not a good defender. I was talking about Rose and Smith when I wrote the unbiased thing, my bad for not clearifying. Actually, you'd say that, but it's harder to play when everybody knows you're getting the ball, it's like giving the RB the ball on every play, everybody's gunning for you. AI's AI though, nobody could really stop him in his prime. I wouldn't call Memphis a good team. But hey, I'm only here for posting about football, this is your territory, I was just giving my opinion. My bad if I sounded like I was questioning you.

I'd disagree with that, four guys that can start means they could be at least C's. Daryl would be a B at most and Kirk would be a B at most I'd think. Depth really doesn't mean much in football as much I wouldn't think since look at the depth of the Colts QBs. Peyton Manning and then... Curtis Painter!? That'd drop them to a B, and wouldn't you give Peyton an A ? I would.

For being stuck on a terrible team, O.J. still puts up his stats. Westbrook has pretty much proved himself helping Durant, and he doesn't need to score 30 every game when you can just hand it to Durant really. Durant doesn't really need to play a whole lot of defense, save your energy for offense. CP really is overrated, he gets injured too much and all he really has is the nasty shot. Not being a fan of somebody shouldn't get him off the list. C'mon man, I thought we were writing unbiased posts man! But either way, Josh Smith isn't known for his offense, he's known for his defense really. That's like saying you expect Durant to be the best defensive player in the league since he's the best offensive and he's overrated. If that's the case, LeBron's way way way way way overrated.
