May 6th 2008 11:25
The Cincinnati Reds were 2-1 last week and are currently 5 1/2 games back in the NL Central. The Reds were led by Paul Bako with a .375 batting average in 16 at bats, 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 home run, 0 stolen bases. Edwin Encarnacion led the team with 10 hits, Joey Votto and Encarnacion each scored 6 runs, Brandon Phillips hit 4 home runs, Phillips also had 8 rbis, and Corey Patterson had 2 stolen bases.
The Reds had Edinson Volquez improve his record to 4-0. He went 2-0 last week with 17 strike outs in 14.0 innings pitched, era of 1.29, and a whip of 1.07. Francisco Cordero had 1 save striking out 2 in 2.0 innings pitched, an era of 4.50, and a whip of 0.50.
The Reds as of April 27th are 7th in the National League in batting and 11th in pitching. They need to improve their batting and pitching. Their pitching is the biggest problem right now and needs to be addressed right away in order to get back into the hunt for a play off race. Hopefully they can get it done.
