Of pigeons and Games

August 20th 2007 05:24
I think pigeons are funny. Why? They're odd, with their little bobbling heads and duck-esque waddling. I like to just watch them, and giggle while other people watch me and think that I'm most definitely nuts.

Most of the time, however, I don't like them. I think it's because they tend to take on human characteristics.

For example: cockiness. I must say that pigeons can be pretty cocky. Ever noticed how smug they are? They make a silent excretion-drop from up above, that lands on your shoe/bag/cup-of-coffee, and then have the audacity to bounce around near your table, practically mocking your crap covered shoe/bag/cup-of-coffee, and then- even worse- when you come to stomp at them to chase the annoying buggers away, they stare you down! Their creepy little bird eyes glint at you, almost crowing (pigeon style, not crow style) at you, daring you to stomp on their chubby selves. They know you can’t do it. They know everything.

It if it wasn’t for the fact that I think they're quite funny, I would’ve probably started an anti-excretion-drop protest long ago. I don’t like pigeon’s droppings. They’re not funny. But pigeons are.

The pigeons on campus are the worst though. Even though they know that us poor university students don't have spare food to throw to them, they insist on hanging around humans like band groupies, cooing to each other about how maybe this lovely student is going to throw them that scrumptious piece of...noodle.

I would squat down and have a one to one talk with the leader of campus pigeons, but I don't want to scare people away. I like people, almost as much as I like to watch pigeons bob their heads.

Topic change. I want to go to a LAN party. I haven't gone to one in...two years. What is a LAN party? Simply put, a LAN party is where a whole lot of computer gamers gather and hook their computers up together to play a multi-player game.

This is totally fun, because, well...it's just fun!

I was reading up on LAN parties and their histories etcetera, and I found out that the largest ever LAN party (which was held in October 2006) had 7752 people attend, and 7788 computers connected! This, of course, made it into the Guinness Book of Records. This happened somewhere in Sweden, I think they change the arena every year to accommodate the number of people attending. For anyone interested, its called DreamHack .

I just find that so exciting. To imagine a room filled with thousands of people so passionate about doing something so fun! And all geeks! How exciting!
