I can't help but notice that lately celebrity seems to be less about the fame and respect, and more about being on a fast track to self-destruction.

In recent times, this is aptly illustrated by tragic divas such as Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Richie, and Britney Spears. The new Hollywood Brat Pack. And the modern-day grandmammy of this brat pack is Anna Nicole Smith herself, the wannabe Monroe that finally got her wish for a Monroe-ish death

"Celebrity" Survivor

Does anyone else out there have a sick fascination with "Celebrity" Survivor?

It's filled with d-list celebrities, has Dicko hosting it, they still manage to look like they're at a country club and I can't stop watching it

Are Scalpers Destroying the World?

Now, I know that that sounds dramatic and that scalpers couldn't possibly be reponsible for the destruction of the world (a certain American is more likely to be the cause of that but no political ranting here). But how many of us are being denied the chance to see the bands or events that we would dearly love to?

Example number one. Tool tickets went on sale a while back and completely sold out in fifteen minutes. Checking eBay a while later while I was totally bored, I found two floor tickets going for $15,000. And no, it wasn't a joke bid, as far as I can tell! More realistically, there were Tool tickets going for $1500 plus

The Cult of MySpace

I can admit it. I'm completely and totally addicted to MySpace. It's not the blogging features, or the bulletins or even any of the other "features". It's because you can find almost anyone you care to, and even people that you don't.

I used to be a LiveJournal fiend - updating my personal journal with multiple posts a day, all with the purpose of keeping people clued in to my oh-so-interesting life. Of course, it wasn't that interesting and the only people that bothered to read it were my friends. I still have my LiveJournal though. I don't think I could bear to part with all the observations I made throughout my teens and early 20s

Is individuality overrated?

I was at festival in Newtown this past weekend. For those that may not know, Newtown is one of the homes for alternative culture in Sydney. It's largely populated by hippies, goths, punks etc. Essentially it's the home of the counter-cultures.

Anyway, the festival was called "Under the Blue Moon", and its target audience were goths. Don't get me wrong, I respect that there are events that target a certain audience but it makes me wonder - is individuality overrated? In a world where there is a celebration for almost every type of culture, is there even such a thing as true individuality anymore
