Digital Villages
Hello guys, i got this article from KDN'S website and U wonna share it with you all.
This is a service that we offer mainly in the rural areas, we provide internet connectivity and through this we generate adequate business cases for the franchise partners to sustain the business more so in rural areas. We are therefore identifying products and services which are either KDN Service Related (PCs, Laptops etc) or are able to cross-market the Mass Market Brand of KDN.
The rural-urban digital divide remains a big challenge to the realisation of the promises that ICT exemplifies. This is why KDN has joined hands with ICT Village.com to set up digital facilities in all the 210 constituencies in Kenya.
These facilities to be known as
" Digital Centres - mainly in centres with 10-20 computers.
" Digital Kiosks - mainly in centres with 1-5 computers.
" Digital Schools - this target institutions and schools and are currently being set up with the partnership of local leaders like area MP's, the youth and teachers in these constituencies.
For ease of identification, we shall soon be branding them as i-village, i-cyber or i-school and these will be incorporated in the Digital Village Network.
KDN is also working with Posta to develop a similar concept in over 300 Postal centred within the country. This project, code-named iPosta, will see KDN roll out digital centres in these postal centres countrywide. Customers will also be able to access Butterfly scratch cards through the Posta facilities countrywide.
The Digital Village Network (or DVN) is a mega-community bringing together various local and global ICT and non-ICT stakeholders under one umbrella to ensure the success of the project.
The DVN will enable and empower individuals, groups, and organizations in the private, and public sectors to exchange information with the rural community and the informal economy members.
