North be bold - Embrace the Green and Gold

NORTH BE BOLD - EMBRACE THE GREEN AND GOLD.
Pale blue and white stripes?
An Argentinean swagger to Messer Simspon, Firrito, Harvey and Wells?
I don’t think so.
The North Melbourne Football Club’s decision to blow the ‘clash strip’ controversy with Collingwood out of the water once and for all isn’t exactly a step forward for the most innovative club in the AFL.
North were the first to experiment with alternate gurnsey’s as far back as their successful 1995 pre - season competition, maintaining the royal blue and white (the infamous, one-off ‘M ad M’ strip of 2000 not withstanding), in various incarnations ever since.
However, now the decision has been made at Arden Street to move toward a new colour combination, I can’t help but think that a bolder choice could forge its own heritage and become as potent a symbol the club has ever had.
North should strike now and embrace the colour combination that quite literally leaps out to any Kangaroo - Green and Gold.
The national colours for the national emblem? It‘s a no - brainer.
A gold gurnsey with a green V or old fashioned ‘NMFC’ logo, white shorts and gold socks (or something along those lines) has never been seen at AFL level before, would bear the hallmarks of an old school, traditional football guernsey and, more importantly, bring colour to an otherwise one dimensional spectacle.
Pale blue makes for dull television, folks.
While soccer teams in Europe change their away shirts yearly, some alternate strips have become as iconic the ones they replace. Bobby Moore famously held aloft the 1966 World Cup for England in the red ‘away’ shirt England still embrace to this day.
North have the chance to embrace a spectacular, meaningful and long standing change for the club and once again show the football world that they as bold as they are innovative.
