Always dreamed about having a touch-screen phone, you're thinking of switching to other brands because Nokia wasn't up-to-date on this technology ... Well, you could wake up now and no need to look into others as you could already get a hold of the newest model that would soon be out on the market. Packed with features that you've been used to in your previous models. And, if you're also someone who's looking into changing from other brands into Nokia, here's your chance now!

Nokia takes wraps off touchscreen phone

Nokia's highly anticipated touchscreen phone has finally been unveiled.

Pundits have been expecting the world's largest mobile maker to take on Apple's iPhone 3G head-to-head with its first touchscreen handset but the Finnish phone company has a slightly different idea.

The 5800 XpressMusic isn't pitched as a do-everything smartphone but skewed towards a younger audience with music playback as its main emphasis. A new "Comes With Music" service will be supplied free with the phone that gives customers 12 months, unlimited access to songs on Nokia's Music Store. Not that the 5800 is a one-trick pony.

The Symbian 60-based mobile can play and record video (VGA resolution at 25 frames a second) and browse the web (including Flash support).

There's a 3.2-megapixel camera with flash, A-GPS with voice navigation, wireless networking, Bluetooth with A2DP stereo streaming and built-in stereo speakers. Like the iPhone, there is no physical keyboard, but all input is via an onscreen keypad and virtual qwerty keyboard.

Unlike the iPhone, however, the 5800's screen isn't multi-touch, relying on the more conventional single finger tap technology, which rules out fancy gestures for navigating the phones features.

No memory is built-in but it ships standard with an 8GB microSD card or optional 16GB card. No Australian pricing has been announced, but its European price indicates the 5800 will be cheaper than the iPhone 3G when it arrives here early next year.
