Heelys on a senior citizen :)

August 7th 2011 00:33
Tennis shoes with wheels! Heelys.

Today at the thrift store, I found a pair of Heelys in my size. Nearly new. bwa ha ha "Heelys" is the imprint on the back and on the inside. I never knew what they were called. Now I do. Knowing the name, I saw several other pair there too. Smaller. Worn out.

I've always said if those came in my size I'd have a pair. Now I do. I'm 50 . A
card carrying AARP member!

I'm no dummy. I expected these will take some practice. Not practice like a bicycle, more like a unicycle. Yes, I learned how to ride one of those when I was 13, I still have one, and I can still ride it. But how do you practice walking on marbles? My dear hubby saw me in the garage, he's going to take out a new life insurance policy on me. I think a tailbone and hip injury policy would be enough.

I want to glide thru the grocery store like all those 10 year olds.

Will I?

Yes, I'm frugal. Or call it cheap! But in today's economy, is it also called smart?

My favorite web site lately?
http://www.frugalvillage.com/
love it!

I think I was a bargain hunter from the day I was born. I was looking for pennies on the sidewalk or any way to earn one. Lemonade? Odds and Ends? I tried selling my toys and treats, yes I did. Early on I couldn't resist trying to win something at the State Fair. Too bad I didn't understand the odds. But I actually beat those odds a little later in life.

When I met my soon to be husband, his mother introduced me to thrift stores. I honestly didn't know "anyone" could shop there. “Anyone” meaning us middle class folks who don't usually need a little help. I've hardly spent a dime at the mall since. Yep… my kind of heaven. Almost as good as winning a sweepstakes. Yes, I've done that too. But, back to thrift store! I've given away nearly new stuff too, what a treat to buy the same from someone else <g>

So I'm frugal and proud of it. I'm blessed that it's not always from necessity. Maybe, over the years, the accumulated savings are why it's not a necessity.

I bargain hunt for nearly everything now. I'll tell you what I've learned if you care to listen.

Health Care Cost & Tort Reform questions

September 10th 2010 01:57
I think many of us understand that tort reform is one of the key ingredients in our health care crises. In a nutshell, our doctors and hospitals pay insanely high insurance premiums to protect themselves against malpractice suits. In regards to that I’ll only say that I believe 99% of our doctors, nurses, medical staff sincerely intend to do their best to help us be well, i.e. they aren’t out to intentionally hurt us.

With that in mind, if you needed medical attention, and trusted your local doctors and hospital, would you sign a waiver that said you or your family could NEVER file a lawsuit against them in regards to the outcome of care provided? What about at your insurance policy level?

I’m curious if a hospital could do business under that pretense? I’ll bet the cost would be significantly reduced! I know this could open up a huge can of worms, but for many of us, it may be better than the "nothing" we can afford now.

Any thoughts?

It's too bad our politicians are avoiding the tort reform topic like the plague, but that's an issue for another discussion!

Multi Tasking

July 16th 2010 01:17
I'm so tired of multi-tasking. I think my boss expects me to talk on the phone, type an email reply to an unrelated question, and proceed with QA software tests all in the same nanosecond.

If we can't talk on our cell phone and drive our car at the same time (and we CAN'T!!!) is multi-tasking really possible?

Not good enough

January 16th 2010 04:45
The USA as a country and its people as a whole have given so much to so many in record time that we are no longer capable of giving enough or getting it there fast enough.

By the same token whatever we do in regards to environmental concerns will never be good enough

Shrinking retail packaging! grrrrrrr!

August 14th 2009 23:43
Is anyone getting disgusted with the ever shrinking size of consumer product packaging these days?

Yeah, we know it's been going on for years, but do the manufactures think we're really so stupid that we don't notice
