No promise of tomorrow

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.
-Proverbs 27:1 (New International Version)
Human life is highly fragile. We never know what a moment of time may bring.
I was recently talking to a new friend who was grieving. One of his closest friends had died at only seventeen years old.
The seventeen year old young man had drowned in a lake while swimming with his friends. Just before his death he called to his friends who were swimming with him for help, saying he was too tired to swim anymore. His friends attempted to rescue him but were unable to find him, so they called the authorities. The police finally did find the teenager, but it was too late. He had become tangled in fishing line and died there in the lake.
Each of us have daily opportunities to take life for granted. Sometimes we feel invincible, like nothing bad could ever happen to us. None of us, however, has a promise of tomorrow. Today let me encourage you to make the most of each moment. Cherish the ones you love. Give your spouse a hug and a kiss. Tell your children that you love them. Go a little out of your way to make someone's day brighter. You never know what a difference it may make. You never know when the next thing you say could be the last thing you say or the next thing you do could be the last thing you do.
How would you live your life differently if you only had five more days, five more hours or even only five more minutes to live? What would be the most important thing in your life? Who would you cherish more? How would you change? Think about it.
