The Drama of Nothing

THE EXPERIMENT
Well I did it, I said I would try a new experiment and I did.
I didn’t really go for the “Stress Advertisement” though – I’ve kind of done that before and besides you have to shake it up a bit – even if people don’t remember your methods – you do and it’s always of utmost importance to keep yourself on your toes…or at least entertained.
So here’s what I did…and am still doing.
I like to call it The Drama of Nothing.
I waltzed into work this morning all quiet and unresponsive, the aim was if I keep my mouth shut, skirt around meetings and act invisible, I’m sure to get skipped for chores and assignments. Well here’s how it went.
Before we get to today’s findings let me just say that this is not an easy task for me, because I’m a talker…a BIG talker, I’m loud, disruptive and no stranger to the office joke and laughter sessions. I’m also a sucker and volunteer my help for everything!
Now that you know, here’s how it went:
FINDING 1:
“Are you OK?”
“Are you sick?”
“Did something happen?”
“You want to talk about anything?”
As you can see by trying to avoid attention I drew way too much – that worked a treat!
FINDING 2:
I was then offered a variety of painkillers, herbal teas and vitamins…I took a few, after all I had to keep up appearances.
FINDING 3 – the clencher:
Well well well, there’s been talk about the fact that I should probably leave early, I might be coming down with something and - wait for it – “don’t worry about taking on any extra projects, we’ll see how you are tomorrow”.
CONCLUSION
So it worked…kind of. I did draw way too much attention to myself, I didn’t get a chance to do what I’d hoped to do – research a holiday, check out this year’s new bathing suits – but I didn’t do anything else either.
I can’t say it was a relaxing day though – the responses took me by surprise I had to think on my feet and look perplexed – which is perplexing, and a tad stressful. I also have a sneaking paranoia – or is that guilt. Surely it can’t be this easy…or is it. Stay tuned – I may try this again.

I'd like to try it but I work from home alone apart from my pooch, I don't think he'd be much help unfortunately
But my husband is a quiet chappie and sometimes when we go out and he's happy not saying much but it seems to freak people out. They often keep asking him if he's Ok or if something is wrong. It seems that his quietness is eerie to them...
