After remaining fairly healthy throughout the majority of the year, the Cincinnati Reds find themselves dealing with nagging injury's down the stretch run. All star first baseman Joey Votto, who could be the NL's MVP, sat out Monday nights game versus Pittsburgh with a wrist injury. The severity of the injury is not known and he is being listed as day to day. In addition to Votto's injury all star short stop Orlando Cabrera left Monday's game with an oblique injury and has been placed on the 15 day DL. Homer Baily and Aaron Harang have continued to stay on the DL with injury's of their own, leaving the Reds pitching staff with questions to be answered.

Reds fall short in Pittsburgh

August 4th 2010 04:01
The Cincinnati Reds found themselves down 6-0 after the second inning, and despite a furious comeback fell short to the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-6 Tuesday night at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Reds rookie Mike Leake was roughed up early and flattened Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen on a fastball that hit McCutchen on the back of the neck. Despite his early struggles Leake recovered nicely giving up only one other run through the next three innings. Cincinnati scored a pair of runs in the 6th and 8th innings to draw closer but failed to score after putting a man on with no outs in the 9th inning. Pirates second baseman Neil Walker led the Bucs with four RBI for the game. The Reds remain a half game ahead of the Cardinals in the NL central.
