The Nikon and Canon brand camera products are perhaps the most common cameras in use by professional photographers.
With the advent of more technological camera design the art of taking a photograph is as simple as pressing the button. The camera takes care of the focus the exposure the aperture.
Gone are the days when you carried a light meter in your pocket and perhaps a few rolls of film.
I am not saying that the “good old days are dun and dusted jest yet.
By it was the careful attention to detail finding the mix between depth of field and exposure, choosing the correct film to do the job. Modern digital cameras have taken the mystic out taking photographs.
Well not necessarily although most of the “guess work is done for you by the modern digital cameras you can still have the option to manually override most of the automatic camera functions.
Most DSLR digital cameras will allow you to chose the exposure manually adjust the focus and aperture settings. So the image taking magic of yester year can still be achieved without the expense of developing and processing film.
Since Nikon launched the first video still image camera combination the D 90 some years ago video has become a very important component of a “still” camera.
Which brand is better?
For me there is no ‘best brand` the things I mostly look for are functionality and options the rest is just a form of elitism, I guess the “best” type of camera is the one your most happy with and is essentially a matter of preference.
In fact both of the popular brand names have similar products and
essentially does the same job.
Just because some says I use a Nikon or Canon does not make the picture taking process any better.
In this blog I “talk “ about the Nikon D3100. The Nikon D3100 is a 14.2 megapixel DX format DSLR Nikon F-mount camera and is basically a replacement for the entry level Nikon D3000.
Nikon D3100 DSLR features a new high speed imaging processor
offering full high definition video recording with full time autofocus and H.264 compression, instead of Motion JPEG compression format.
Some of the D310 features include Continuous Drive up to 3 frames per second.
Live view mode. Live view AF modes: Face priority, Wide area, Normal area, Subject tracking.
ISO sensitivity 100 to 3200 6400 and 12800 with boost function.
D3100 offers 1080p (HD) for 10 minutes at 24 frames per second in H.264. The camera has and additional720p30/25/24 and 480p24 video option. The D3100 uses JPEG, NEF (Nikon's RAW, 12-bit compressed) format The camera has full time autofocus in movie mode but does not have a provision for and external microphone.
I would give the Nikon D3100 a rating of 8 out 10.
