Grindhouse: DeathproofDecember 18th 2008 07:37
Do you love Tarantino? Do you love car chases? Love hot girls? Then yes, this is the film you need to see. The acting is brilliant, and the writing... genius as expected. The whole movie is filmed in a 70's style on grainy film and with the appropriate cars and clothes. At first you might think that it is actually set in the 70’s. I did. But no, I was wrong. The characters use modern things – cell phones, text messaging – and it undoubtedly set in more modern times. The girls are rough and tumble, sexy and from some small town somewhere. The bad guy is Kurt Russell ( I know... what???) and he’s a wacko. Total nutter. I don’t want to ruin the film for you because I think that if you know it all before you see it, it just won’t be the same. It’s brilliant and it is totally enthralling. My favourite characters are the three girls at the end of the film, Kim (Tracey Thomas), Abernathy (Rosario Dawson) and Zoe (Zoe Bell). They’re all girl power, and that is the key to making a great action flick work.
Anyway, you gotta get it for yourself, have a watch and tell me what you think. Especially the final scene, as I had to watch it 3 times in a row, it was that well done. Happy Watching! Happy Holidays too

Meet DaveNovember 5th 2008 07:21
Your text goes hereThe film is titled Meet Dave. It could also be known as another step towards the end of Eddie Murphy's career. Maybe it's because he's been going through a lot of stuff in his life... divorce, crazy relationship with Scary Spice, and the whole 'is he the dad or isn't he' issue. The man was comedic genius in the 80's and 90's. However, it's been falling short lately. Really, ever since the Nutty Professor.
The idea of the film was sort of clever. Dave is an alien space ship that looks and (sort of) acts like a human male. Dave is manned by a crew of aliens who apparently have very little emotion prior to reaching earth. They've come to steal the earth's oceans in order to help their home planet survive, even though this would cause the distruction of earth. Dave makes friends with a young boy and his mom and there is a feeling that maybe a love story will arise from the relationship. Long story short, the crew develop emotions, over throw the captain and then the usurping captain as well, and escape the clutches of the FBI in a wing tipped emergency shuttle. It's an ok flick, if you're desperatly bored, and want to watch something mildly amusing. 2 stars of 10.Your text goes here

Indiana Jones and the Crystal SkullOctober 14th 2008 06:23
I'm a huge Indiana Jones fan. I remember being a little kid and watching the movies with my dad. They're classics. I think my favorite movie scene ever is when, in Temple of Doom, Indie is facing off with this huge Arab man in black in the village center. The man is waving around this enormous scimitar, and everyone thinks "Oh no! Now Indie's in trouble!" and then, dead pan, Indie shoots the guy. Love it.
So needless to say, I was desperately excited when I heard they were shooting the fourth film. I waited and waited and went running to see it. And was so disappointed that I wasn't sure whether to throw my popcorn at the screen or cry. Honestly, what are Aliens doing in and Indiana Jones movie?? I know that Speilburg was involved in the originals, but wow, he absolutley ruined this one. I get the story line. I understood where they were going with it. It just wasn't the story line for this character. If you're a Southpark fan, you might have seen a recent episode about the destruction of this film. I agree with those guys 100%. There was so much potential for the film and they just let the fans down, big time. You're probably wondering by now - if you were smart enough not to have seen the film yet - what happened that made this film so bad. Here's the general plot. We first find indie in the middle of the Nevada desert, kidnapped by a group of Russians posing as American soldiers. He is forced to find a crate that contains a special box, which turns out to be a coffin. He ends up escaping by running off in the dark and ends up in a nuclear test site. He escapes again and makes his way back to university. Later, Indie is contacted by this young guy on behalf of an old friend, Professor Oxley. Ox has apparently found the crystal skull and the lost city of gold in the Amazon. However, Ox has gone missing and Indie decides to go find him. Indie and his new young friend Mutt are chased through town by the Russians, escaping them for now but again being caught after they make it to the Amazon. The story takes a whacky twist from here. Apparently the lost city of gold was created by an alien race (yup, outer space aliens) and their skeletons are made of some sort of power weilding crystal. To sum up this really bad plot, the skull needs to be returned to it's owner, which it is, causing the destruction of the city, Indie and friends escape and well, it all ends in a wedding. If you're really a fan, do yourself a favour, pretend that they never made the film and continue your worship of the original hero, while his status was still untarnished.

Scorpion King 2 Rise of A WarriorSeptember 11th 2008 05:55
Yes, that's right, a sequel. Surprise!!
Although, it did go straight to video, so many people were unaware of it's release. A shame, it wasn't all that poorly made, and well, it could've made some money in theatre. Wouldn't have been a box office smash but likely wouldv'e done ok. I think that this one is meant to be a prequal to the original starring Duane Johnson (AKA the Rock). However, the movie doesn't really go into it too much, so it's hard to be sure.

Harold & Kumar Escape Guantanamo BaySeptember 8th 2008 00:46
This is not the film for you if you can't stand stupid comedy. However, if you find that on occasion that's exactly what you want to watch and waste away a couple of hours, then, my friend, this is the film for you. Purely rediculous-pot-head-sex-fanta sy-red-neck hilarity. It's not a film that I could watch a hundred times over, but it's pretty good for a lazy night on the sofa.
Without giving too much of the plot away (not that there would really be a lot to give away), you'll follow the boys from a mistaken incident on an international flight where they're mistaken for terrorists and sent to the notorious Guantanamo Bay. Harrassed by the sterotypically racist and unintellegent government agent, and threatened by the unpalatable cock-meat sandwich, the boys break free and are on the run. We meet some characters from the original film (Neal Patrick Harris, for one) and of course fall into a mixed bag of funny but unfortunate circumstances. But at the end of the day, they head off into the sunset and we're all teary eyed with the happily ever after ending. The film is what it is. It's not about amazing scripts or unforgettable performances. It's about having a laugh, and laugh I did. And if you're into this type of film, I can guarantee that you will too.

Review The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon EmperorSeptember 3rd 2008 01:12
So, you've seen the ads, heard the hype. The third installment in this series is back, and along with Brendan Fraser (Rick O'Connell) and John Hannah (Johnathan Carnahan) we also get to see Jet Li (Dragon Emperor) and Michelle Yeoh (Zi Juan) who really pretty much made this movie work for me. We've lost Rachel Weiss, the original Evie, who has been replaced by Maria Bello... that doesn't work. Plain and simple. Weiss made Evie fun and a bit saucy. Bello has made her posh and proper, and you don't see her as a heroine anymore. A shame, as Evie was my favorite character in the original two. Plus it seems the film was just thrown together and well, it just isn't up to the standard set by the first two. The writing isn't as good, neither are the graphics or the acting. Diasappointing really.
On to the movie itself. There are lots of requisite monsters... terracotta soldiers who come to life, abominable snow creatures, and of course, the Dragon Emperor himself. Watching for the return of the Dragon Emperor is a witch who fell in love with one of his generals during his actual reign. The Emperor had the general killed and the witch made herself immortal so that she could wait for his return and destroy him forever, protecting the world. Summary: Rick and Evie fly to China and meet up with Johnathan and Alex (who is now in his twenties ?????). Alex has discovered the tomb, accidentally releasing the Dragon Emperor. They end up flying to the Himalayas to collect the only sword that can destroy the Emperor, encounter some wierd creatures, save the day and head home to jolly old England
