This week's edition is emergency flashers!! I am sure that DC isn't alone in people's moronic use of their flashers. It doesn't matter if you are driving down a residential street or a main street like H Street or Pennsylvania Avenue - people think if they put their flashers on they can leave their car and do as they like. Before they had one lane on H Street I even saw someone put on their flashers and go into Popeye's Chicken, wait in line to order, and as far as I know sat down to eat it. Twice in the last two weeks I have been heading home and a van was parked with their flashers on such that I couldn't get by (mind you there was a place to park just one quarter of a block down) and they made me wait 15 minutes while they took their sweet time doing whatever.... Now if anyone can explain this logic to me please do. Did I miss the driving class where they explained that if you put on your flashers you can park anywhere and not worry about getting a ticket? They should allow us to take a picture of their car and license plate and send it in so they can receive their $500 ticket!!!
Next up - Bumpers!
I am not sure that I really understand the whole idea of an NFL lockout. Are the Owners and Players really arguing about $800 MILLION in revenue when so many people are out of work and at a time when gas is going through the roof? When people are loosing their homes in record numbers and seniors are going back to work because they lost much of their nest egg? I have a solution – one that I am sure would make many people like myself who go to those overly expensive NFL games happy. Why don’t they take the revenue and put it into a foundation managed by representatives of the Owners and Players Association. This Foundation would invest the money into research for things that affect players like Arthritis, Concussions, joint replacement, etc… It would also develop a special fund for destitute players – not to make them rich, but kind of like social security for players so they don’t become homeless. The possibilities are endless – but these players need to start thinking about their future as a group – not just about the big payday. I have seen many stories of players pissing away $50 or $100 Million dollars and the Owners have made money hand over fist in a recession!!!
