Marshall Wants Out of Denver

June 16th 2009 02:44
Josh McDaniels can't keep an offensive player in Denver. Jay Cutler got out in the off-season and now his favorite target Brandon Marshall wants out of Denver. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Brandon Marshall has asked to be traded from the Denver Broncos.

The most obvious destination would be Chicago to rejoin Cutler, but the word on the street is that the Baltimore Ravens are the front-runners. If indeed this true, Marshall and second year QB Joe Flacco could be a threat in the NFL for the next decade.

Marshall is a buyer beware kind of player because of his inability to stay out of trouble or the hospital. Marshall is a quality player but seems to spend more time on the sidelines with silly injuries or legal problems. Does everyone remember when he was out because he cut himself wrestling with a family member?

Adam Schefter Joins ESPN

June 10th 2009 19:00
Former NFL Network reporter Adam Schefter has joined the crew at ESPN. Schefter is considered to be the most accurate and most connected reporter of the NFL media. ESPN officially announced the addition today.

"The name ESPN speaks for itself. Its reputation stands alone,” Schefter said. "I watched ESPN growing up, so to be a part of the programming that every football fan watches, and really has always watched, and to be a part of such a talented group of people, it’s surreal to me. It feels like I’m a late addition to the Pro Bowl. I'm flattered, honored, humbled — and I can’t wait to get to work."

This is a huge signing for ESPN and will bring instant credibility to their football news team. Schefter seems to always be ahead of every story and have every football player's email, or cel phone number.

The UFL is Coming

June 8th 2009 14:40
The UFL (United Football League ) is actually starting up. With the NFL being one of the best run leagues in the world, you kind of have to question that chances of the UFL succeeding in the same market.

The UFL officially held try-outs for the new league in Orlando Florida this past weekend. The talent was not stellar that showed up but this was just the first of many try outs. The next will be held in Las Vegas next week.

Players will be assigned to team geographically this year. The plans for the UFL are to hold a draft for the teams the following year. In wonder who they will be drafting? Most players who do not get drafted by the NFL still try to be walk-ons or try to get on the practice squad for NFL teams. I am thinking the picking will be slim.

The players that showed up in Orlando this week included Travis Taylor, Quinn Gray, and David Boston. The UFL is going to have to much better then those names to get butts in the seats.

NBC's Football Night in America is getting a make over this season. The pre-game team will see Tony Dungy added along with Rodney Harrison. Off the team are Chris Collingsworth and Jerome Bettis.

Tony Dungy will be a valuable addition to the pre-game banter. As one of the winningest coaches in the history of the NFL, he will provide insight that the pre-game show was lacking. Dungy quit the grind of coaching and seems to have embraced a new role in front of the camera.

Rodney Harrison will be able to replace Jerome Bettis as the voice of the players. Harrison is well respected in the league and should bring knowledge of the defensive side of the ball plus the behind scenes thoughts of an NFL veteran. Jerome Bettis' contract was not renewed by NBC.

Chris Collingsworth is not gone from NBC. He will be taking on the larger task of calling the games. He will join broadcast partner Al Michaels to call the action. This new gig is exactly where Collingsworth belongs. The team of Michaels and Collingsworth team is a far better duo than what Monday Night Football is offering. Who knows if Matt Millen can destroy MNF like he did the Lions?

A big question which has lead to heated debates between NFL fans, dog lovers, people with morales... is should Michael Vick be able to the return the NFL. The question people should really be asking is if the NFL willing to take Michael Vick?

Commish Roger Goodell is all about the appearance of the NFL as a whole. He hands out suspensions like he has to use them up before they expire. He wants to eliminate every negative aspect from the game from steroids to sports betting. This leaves the question of why would he want to allow someone who received so much negative critiscm back into the leaque?

First of all, I think what Vick did was terrible. I have heard every argument including that it is common place in that part of the world to fight dogs. I don't care! It is wrong, cruel, and he got what he deserved. Did he really deserve to lose that much cash and numerous sponsorships? You bet he did.

The other side of the coin is that he has paid his debt to society by serving his time in prison. He probaably truly is sorry for what he did and probably will never do it again. If that is truly the case then I commend Michael Vick on growing as a person. Does it make a difference to me as an NFL fan? Not one little bit.

Michael Vick now has to pay his debt to the NFL fans (mostly the young ones) for the example he set. Not only did he commit the crime, but he also publically lied to the fans and his coaches about what he had done. Being the 'Face of a Franchise' is not a right, but a privledge. In my opinion that is a privledge Michael Vick should never see again. Roger Goodell should make an example of Vick with a life-time ban. If you can get a year for smoking weed 3 times then a light punishment on Vick just doesn't seem fair.
