Thomas Jones Chiefs
Thomas Jones - Kansas City Chiefs

It's been reported that Jonathan Baldwin, The Chiefs 1st round pick in the 2011 NFL draft was injured during a locker room scuffle with Thomas Jones. It's beleived that Baldwin's wrist was injured during the scuffle and he may miss the rest of the preseason. The details of the argument were not released at this time.

I thought Thomas Jones came to KC to bring leadership to the young players, not beat them down! Jones, what are you thinking?? Also, have you seen Jones's guns? Baldwin, you should have seen that coming!

And the Best WR Goes to...

NFL top Wide Receivers

NFL-Newswire is back with the top 5 NFL Wide Receivers. As we all know, WR is one of the most plentiful positions in the league making it hard to narrow it down to just 5. Also, it seems that every year some top receivers take a step back and some very little known receiver emerges to become a top team contributor. When it comes to grading wide receivers it's all about production.

Here are my top 5 WR in no particular order, then I will break it down for you!

- Andre Johnson
- Larry Fitzgerald
- Brandon Marshall
- Calvin Johnson
- Desean Jackson

----------------------------- ----------------------------- ----------------------------- --

5. Desean Jackson

In Jackson's first 2 years with the Philadelphia Eagles, he was a one man highlight reel. He became the first player to be named to the Pro Bowl at 2 different positions WR - KR. This tells you just how versatile this kid really is. He pulled in 6 TD grabs including a 91 yarder and averaged 22.5 yards per catch last year. Anytime the ball is thrown his way there is a chance for fireworks and don't blink or you will miss it all!

4. Calvin Johnson
Calvin Johnson Lions

Calvin Johnson has all of the physical tools you look for in a #1 receiver. Standing 6' 5" and weighing 236lbs, this guy can fight for position and make a play on any ball thrown his way. With Matthew Stafford gaining more experience and Jahavid Best being productive, Calvin Johnson could have one of those break out years! Look for Stafford to call his number early and often and watch this guy have a magical year!

3. Brandon Marshall
Brandon Marshall Dolphins

Brandon Marshall didn't put up career numbers in Miami last year. In part due to missing 2 games and in part because he had people like Chad Henne and Tyler Thigpin throwing him passes. Even without the eye popping numbers in 2010 it's easy to see this is a Man among Boys! He has the talent, the looks and the attitude of a top 3 WR in this league. If he can keep his cool and if Henne could make a few throws, he could have another stand-out year!

2. Andre Johnson
Andre Johnson Texans

Andre Johnson I an amazing specimen of a football player. He really doesn't have any flaws when it comes to his job. He hits his routes, he makes tough catches over the middle, he out runs the defense, he stays on his blocks and he does nothing but catch TD's on Sundays! I would pay to watch this guy walk to the store let alone play among the best. I see big things this year for Johnson and see big things in this young man's future.

1. Larry Fitzgerald
Larry Fitzgerald Cardinals

Fitzgerald is easily in 90% of everyone's top WR in the league. He continues to produce, produce, produce... He now has a good QB that knows how to utilize the weapons around him. Fitzgerald has averaged 87 catches per year since 2004 and has amassed over 65 TD's in his short career. Perhaps his best attribute is his endurance, only missing 3 games in 7 seasons! Beanie Wells should help him out tremendously!

In/Out of the Gutter?

August 15th 2011 03:30
Jay Cutler Crying

It seems that every football season brings Cinderella stories and stories of tragedy and lost seasons and makes fools out of the so called "Experts". You can't blame those who get it wrong however due to instances like the Vikings and Cowboys complete destruction and the Chiefs and Bucs complete turn around.

I am going to give you a run down of teams that could get out of the gutter then I will give you some teams that could go into the gutter Don't be afraid to weigh in if you disagree!

----------------------------- ----------------------------- ----------------------------- ---------------------

Getting Out of the Gutter

- Dallas Cowboys

I believe that the 2011 Dallas Cowboys will be a whole different team. With Garrett at the helm the Cowboys should get back to form this season. With a fairly favorable schedule the Cowboys SHOULD handle business to get into the playoffs. The only thing that scares me about this choice is the "Dream Team" Philadelphia Eagles. I could see the Cowboys winning at least 9 games and possibly sneaking into a wild card spot.

- Minnesota Vikings
Donovan McNabb
Donovan McNabb

With a very good defense and weapons like Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin, Jared Allen and Antione Winfield, this team is legit now that Donovan McNabb has been added to the mix. If they could just somehow deal with Green Bay they may have a shot to sneak into the playoffs.

- Oakland Raiders
Darren Mcfadden

The Raiders went 6-0 in the AFC West division. The only team ever to go undefeated within the division but miss out on the playoffs. They were very competitive in most games last year with 5 of the 8 losses being by 1 score or less. They were ranked 2nd in the NFL in rushing in 2010 and 2nd against the pass. If they stay consistent in those areas and find ways to improve on their passing game and stopping the opponents running game they may be able to shine in a some what so-so division.

----------------------------- ----------------------------- ----------------------------- ---------------------

Team going INTO the Gutter

- Chicago Bears
Jay Cutler Crying

I didn't believe in the Bears in 2010 and I don't believe in them now. They did little to get better this off season only adding a few respectable names in RB Marion Barber and CB Corey Graham. They traded away Greg Olsen and signed Desmond Clark and Matt Spaeth at the TE spot. I don't think Jay Cutler is going to be that QB everyone thought he would be. He shows flashes of greatness but also shows lack of leadership and is seen as gutless, even by some of his peers. I look for them to take a step back and come back down to earth and enjoy a respectable 7 win season.

- Kansas City Chiefs
Todd Haley

I hate to say this because I love the KC Chiefs, but they are looking up a huge mountain called Mt. Schedule.. The have the toughest schedule comparative to last seasons standings. Check this, in a 3 week stretch they play @ SD , vs Minn, @ Indy. Then in a 5 week stretch they play @ NE , vs Pitt , @ Chi , @ NYJ , vs GB. With 6 opponents that were in the 2010 playoffs and then 6 tough divisional games, the Chiefs will be lucky to win 8 games this year. I think overall they will be a better team, however, this year will be a true testament on the Chiefs and the new and improved look.

- Indianapolis Colts
Peyton manning

I said it... Yes I did. I think this is the year that the Houston Texans dethrone the Indianapolis Colts, current kings of the AFC South. The Texans have proven to have the Colts number beating them in the season opener and then hanging close with them in the season matchup finale. With Bob Sanders leaving someone on that teams defense better step up because even when Bob Sanders was on the team, they had big issues. Not that Sanders was ever active... Time to take the back seat Colts, the Texans have arrived!

And the Best RB goes to...

August 14th 2011 23:57
NFL Running Backs

Who is the best RB in the NFL?

When I get asked this question I tend to shy away. The reason being, RB's are so interchangeable and with the right blocking scheme, any team can make any RB better than they really are (Broncos). With the NFL being bigger, stronger and more athletic, RB careers have really shortened making it hard to determine who is the best of the best.

So who is the best RB in the league? I'll give you my top 5 and then break it down from there. In no particular order...

- Chris Johnson
- Adrian Peterson
- Jamaal Charles
- Steven Jackson
- Arian Foster

5. Arian Foster - RB Houston Texans
Arian Foster - RB Houston Texans

Arian Foster was one of the dark horses of 2010. Foster was signed as an Un-drafted free agent in 2009 after a stellar but unspectacular college career at Tennessee and only found is way to the starting spot after Steve Slaton took a seat due to a serious injury. Foster took advantage of this opportunity and barley squeaked by Jamaal Charles for the 2010 rushing title. There is just not enough sample of Arian Foster to put him any higher on the list. 2011 will tell if Foster was a fluke or a diamond in the rough.

4. Steven Jackson - RB St. Louis Rams
Steven Jackson - RB St. Louis

I know Steven Jackson is getting old and those 1878 carries are starting to take a toll on him but he still has the tools to be a great running back. He can still block with the best of them and can still catch passes in the flats and turn them into huge gains. I think that Sam Bradford's success will take a huge load of of Jackson and allow him to find some holes when the Defense is guarding the Bradford passing attack

3. Chris Johnson - RB Tennessee Titans
Chris Johnson - RB Tenessee Titans

I know some people are screaming right now... "Chris Johnson is # 3???" and would have been quick to put them as your number 1 RB, however, CJ is going to find himself in tough times in Tennessee. I feel like the Titans needed surgery and simply pulled out the band aids and I think that Chris Johnson will have a tough time carrying the offensive load when the passing game sputters. One thing is for sure, we will see him rip off some 60 yard touchdowns and rack up over 1,500 yards, if his body holds up.

2. Jamaal Charles - RB Kansas City Chiefs
Jamal Charles - RB Kansas City Chiefs

I follow the Chiefs very closely and when they drafted Jamaal Charles in the 3rd round of the 2008 draft, I thought the pick was a steal and he would pay huge dividends for the Chiefs. He has proven me right and the most impressive part about Jamaal Charles is that he has done it with a "who's that - has been" offensive line. His combination of speed/vision/agility/power is very rare for a man of his size and the Chiefs will lean on him in the long-term. With the talent that is now surrounding Charles, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a 2,000 yard rusher. Averaging 6.4 ypc will be a tough repeat but if anyone can do it this man can.

1. Adrian Peterson - RB Minnesota Vikings
Adrian Peterson - RB Minnesota Vikings

I knew once I decided to write this piece that Adrian Peterson would be my #1 RB. How could he not be? He is a talent that comes by once in a lifetime and every time he touches the ball could mean 6 points for the Vikings. He will punish would-be defenders and will shake wanna-be tacklers. He may break records this year. Watch closely or you might miss it. Emmit Smith, please take note that Adrian Peterson is coming for your records and they are his if he wants them!

Who is in your top 5 and who do you have at #1. I love to debate. Let's get it going!

And the best QB goes to....

August 14th 2011 03:12
Top NFL Quarterbacks

Who is the best Quarterback in the NFL?

There is a lot of debate when it comes to crowning the best QB in the NFL, and rightfully so. You can look at wins but that isn't always vindictive of the QB play (good defense, good running game etc..). You can look at yards per game but that doesn't always add up to wins. You can look at TD's, yards per attempt or what ever stat you want, there is a way to poke holes in everyone's theory about who is the best QB in all the land.

So who is the best?

I will give you my top 5 and then narrow it down from there. in no particular order;

- Peyton Manning
- Tom Brady
- Drew Brees
- Ben Roethlisberger
- Aaron Rodgers

5. Ben Roethlisberger
I put "Big Ben" in at number 5. He has proven to be a winner in Pittsburgh but the numbers are not as eye popping as the others on the list. He has a great defense in Pittsburgh that really puts him in great field situations. Without Ben in the lineup the Steelers have held their own going 3-1 in the four games without Ben to start the 2010 season due to a suspension for personal conduct issues with the NFL.

4. Drew Brees
Drew Brees is a great QB with great vision for such a short guy. He continues to put up 4,000 yard seasons with really a mediocre receiving corp. He has lead the Saints to the promise land and is the reason the Saints are even a discussion when it comes to Super Bowl contenders.

3. Aaron Rodgers
I believe that Aaron Rodgers will be considered one of the great QB's that ever played the game when it's all said and done. This guy has pin point accuracy with the brain of a rocket scientist. He is one of the best pocket passers the game has ever seen. He will continue to get better is the scary part...

2. Peyton Manning
Peyton Manning is one of the guys already. When I say guys I mean greats like Montana, Aikman, Favre, Young, Marino, Elway and the list goes on. He will go on to break many of Favre's passing records before he hangs up the pads. He is still super focused each and every day and the man will show up more prepared than the other team's Defense. it's just a fact. Even when your only goal is to stop Peyton Manning, you still can't stop him. He's that good!

1. Tom Brady
I admit it was a huge toss up between Brady and Manning but Brady was and still is part of a Dynasty like I have never seen before. He came out of no where and emerged as one of the greatest of all times. He has been the leader of 3 Superbowl teams, a 16-0 team and holds the record for most TD's in a season. He continues to be solid in the pocket and delivers strikes in even the smallest of windows. You can always count on Brady to put together a magical season that is somehow better than the last. It's amazing.
