Newcastle United and Middlesbrough Finally relegated.

Relegation battle was all the rage this weekend as Newcastle United, Hull City, Middlesbrough were all fighting to avoid relegation. Its funny how this battle went up to the wire, one cud have expected the opposite side of the table to have more fire upto this last game. But that was chapter was closed a weekend or so ago when Manchester United drew with Arsenal at home to take the Premier League for a record 18th time equaling their closest challengers this season Liverpool.
Liverpool ended the season in a classy style by beating Totenham Hotspur 3-1 while Wenger boys (the Gunners) ended it in more style by thrashing Stoke City 4-1 at the Emirates stadium. Sunderland fought well though they were beaten 3-2 by Chelsea. Manchester United team B beat Hull city 1 – 0 but Hull survived courtesy of all the other teams in the same battle losing, I must say they survived by the skin of their teeth!
Newcastle United’s 16 year stay in the top flight ended in most horrible fashion as they dropped off the premier league with defeat at Aston Villa. Damien Duff's unfortunate own goal - deflecting in Gareth Barry's 20-yard shot seven minutes before the interval - ensured Alan Shearer's mission to save Newcastle from relegation ended in devastating failure.
Middlesbrough's 11-year stay in the Premier League also came to a halt at Upton Park after Gareth Southgate's side lost to West Ham United. It was a must-win game for Boro but any hopes of survival were soon dashed with a first-half strike by Carlton Cole who slotted in Herita Ilunga's cross
Due credit must be given where its due because this season was a very tough one considering the last two teams went off with the same number of points (32) unlike last season where Derby County became relegated with only 12 points and a goal difference of about -60 something ( a very poor record).
We hope next season will be even more competitive than this one has been!
