Axis of Awesome is a Sydney-based comedy group that does musical-based comedy and came to prominence a couple of years ago when they made fun of the election showdown between John Howard and Kevin Rudd.


Well, they're a bit of an internet sensation now, after releasing a video that makes fun of the fact that many of the most popular pop songs of the past few years have relied on the same simple progression: 4 chords, man.



It's funny because teenage kids that learn to play guitar figure out the same thing when they get those beginner's guides to guitar books. I had one when I was 14 and was mesmerized by the range of songs that I should have been able to play.


Of course, when I tried to play along with the actual song, it sounded like crap.

The difference with Axis of Awesome is that they're awesome, and the video highlights the singing talents of big Benny, who knocks these songs out like he's not even trying.


This isn't that original, though - a while back, comedian Rob Paravonian explained how Pachabel's Canon followed him everywhere he went:
