Movin' on Up

November 10th 2011 03:52
I moved up to the gold tees this past weekend with many of my friends. Shot 83 and had a great time. The gold tees are so much more fun. Played them for the second time on election day and shot 47 (ouch) on the front and 36 on the back nine. I finished the back nine with an EAGLE on 16 and a birdie on 18. Those shots were so gratifying and excited me. All of a sudden the 47 didn't seem so bad.

No Place for Cheating in Golf

October 24th 2011 04:14
Know the rules and live by them. There is no excuse for knowingly disobeying the rules of golf during a match. And there is no honor in getting caught cheating and then continuing to do so match after match! So the next time you're at 17 green, place your coin behind the ball and don't throw it a foot or more forward toward the hole. Or say the next time you're on hole 14 just to the left of the pond after looking for your ball that everyone told you went to the right, don't cup a ball in your hand and place it where you wish it had landed. Go to the side of the hazard opposite the green on a line with the pin and the point where the ball entered the hazard and drop a ball. Or say you're in a sandtrap taking some practice swings. Don't let the club touch the sand because it's a penalty to ground your club in a hazard. Okay Jasper?

The New Number One

October 17th 2011 12:51
Vettiner 1 & 10 Tees
The first tee, fairway and green on a beautiful Sunday morning.

Once the new clubhouse was finished, the old number eight became the new number one. When the course first opened, the new number one was the original number one. A few of the members in the Men's club have had some bigger numbers for this opening hole. But most of the players are coping just fine.

Almost "Brained" Roy on # 2 Green

October 17th 2011 00:47
Played in the Men's Club today, and I had one of my better rounds of the year. On the second hole I almost hit Roy on the head with an approach to the green. For some reason in my mind I thought Dave, who was in my foursome today, was standing on the green waiting for me to hit onto the green. So I hit my wedge from 105 yards and it was going straight for the pin right where Dave (Roy) was standing. Well, it sailed over his head close enough for him to hear the whoosh of the ball. I yelled fore but no one on the green reacted. Why should they have. Anyway, I was mortified. I apologized profusely. There were no hard feelings after the round. I really appreciate having friends who are understanding of human failing.

You Gotta Go For It

October 14th 2011 03:27
I love to play golf. My favorite course is Charlie Vettiner in Louisville, KY. Lately, the question among those of us in the Men's club is "Are you going to move up to the gold tees once the season is over?" The gold tees are for seniors 55 and older. I am 55 myself and have always thought I would move up there when I reached that age. Many of the other guys who have been playing the white tees for years and are in their early 60's and they are the ones who are adamant about going up to the golds this weekend.

Moving to the gold tees would make the game somewhat easier. Instead of hitting long irons into the par 4's I'd have short irons. But I've played a few times from the golds and you know, my score really didn't improve that much. So I wonder if the move will be worth it. I think I'll move there just the same. I love those short irons.
