NLP- Eyes can give it away

July 19th 2007 01:52
Okay, this is the second post on NLP is, so if you missed the first one go back and have a look and it will explain what NLP is.

Today i want to talk about eye movements. Last night i was doing a bit of research on the topic and i came across this really interesting eye excercise so feel free to give it a go.

The eyes are powerful tools and can reveal what type of information a person is processing just by observing their movements.

So here are a few guidelines as to what a person might be processing while you are talking to them.

If a person's eye movement-
* Looks up to the right- they are processing a remembered image, so it might be an image that relates to the topic you are talking about accessed through past experience

*Looks up to the left- the person is creating an image or constructing an image. For example somebody may be visualising what they think something might look like.

*Looks down to the right- the person is accessing internal dialogue. They may be talking something through in their minds or processing a thought with the use of talking to themselves in their mind

*Looks down to the left- the person is accessing what they are feeling. A topic at hand may trigger a feeling or emotion.

*Looks to the right at eye level- they are remembering a sound of something

*Looks to the left at eye level- they are constructing a sound, so again they are forming a perception of what something may sound like

The excercise is to sit down with someone you know and just ask them a series of questions. While doing this observe their eye movements and determine what kind of information they are processing.

NLP- How to train our thoughts

July 18th 2007 09:12
Over recent times, i have heard the term NLP mentioned on the T.V, radio and i have seen alot of advertising for courses regarding Neuro Linguistic Programming.

So i thought to myself what on earth is the concept behind this programming. As i began to research the term, i became more and more interested in the concept. NLP referred to ideas that required me to access a different angle on the way i pecieved things to be.

I would like to share my findings with people who are also interested in finding out all about Neuro Linguistic Programming. I can assure you it will change the way you deal with cetain situations and you will find that your reality will be altered to reach new dimensions in your thought process.

Each day i will post a new topic on NLP, today i will start with a basic defenition.

What Is NLP??

NLP is a study that involves observing the structure of the human thought processes and how we use that information to form a perception of an experience.

Many factors can effect our opinions and behaviours, however NLP is a study that refines these processes in order to create a new way of thinking and behaving.

An easier way of understanding this is say for instance we have never seen a computer before and suddenly a package turns up with just a computer, no manual, no instructions. Would you know what to do with it? Most likely not. The only way we would begin to understand it is through experience.

Our brain is a powerful tool, and behaviours are formed through experience and repetition of that experience.

NLP can refine our thought processes right down to phobia's. We can use somebody elses knowledge to help us alter the way we experience a particular situation. An example would be somebody who is afraid of flying would plant an image of a plane crashing into the ocean or a mountain and death or injury would be apart of their visual experience. Compare that to someone who loves to fly, their thought process may involve the wonderful view of the clouds etc etc. The person who has the fear of flying can change their perception to become a positive experience.

This gives you a basic idea of what NLP is all about, however it only puts a small dent in the overall concept.

I intend to cover many angles on what is involved in the conept, feel free to comment or ask any questions and i will do my best to answer them.

Till Next time
