Marvel December Solicitations

September 23rd 2006 07:37
Yes, I know I haven't posted anything in over a week. Real life catches up with the best of us, apologies to all of you checking in every day for my next installment (hi mum!)

OK, with my copy of Civil War #4 still residing at the comic shop, I have to find something better to write about (a review of that important tome should be coming at you on the morrow). Marvel solicitations for December were released a few days ago, so I might as well go through the important releases

Marvel Titles You Should Be Reading

September 14th 2006 13:05
My stash hasn't come in yet, there's no interesting news to write about, so I might as well inform you all about the Marvel Comics you should be reading. If any DC fans out there are feeling unloved, then stiff shit, because I don't read that many DC titles. Between my Marvel fixation and a few other writers I follow, the funds don't stretch that far.

Latest Marvel News

September 12th 2006 06:21
Marvel had their retailer summit yesterday, and it was accompanied by an avalanche of news and announcements - some welcome, some not so.

Nova gets an ongoing! OK, so Nova is getting his own title spinning out of the recent Annihilation event. It's being written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. They wrote his miniseries in Annihilation, and that was pretty good, so it seems like this Nova series might have legs. The character has never really taken off as a solo star - he's had two ongoings, and both were cancelled in short order. Annihilation may have given him enough buzz to generate some sales. Anyway, it's good to see Marvel's cosmic characters getting some love

Uncanny X-Men #478 Review

September 11th 2006 14:31

Still on my X-Men kick (and in realisation that the issue I reviewed a few days ago is about two weeks old!) I'm moving over to review another of the core titles, Uncanny X-Men. After a decent run by X-Men legend Chris Claremont, the writing reins were taken by Ed Brubaker, ably assisted by Billy Tan on pencils

Civil War fragments released!

September 9th 2006 13:15
In lieu of actually releasing the comics on time, Marvel are teasing us with snippets and fragments from Civil War #4, the much-awaited and long-delayed next issue in their line-wide event of the Summer (er, make that the Autumn and the Winter too. Better throw in Spring just in case...)

For those coming in late, here's the scoop on what's happening in the Civil War miniseries. Some punk heroes called the New Warriors screwed up while apprehending a group of z-list villains, and a whole lot of school kids got blown up (somebody think of the children!). So the government gets pissed, and decides that superheroes have to get registered and trained now, and reveal their secret identities. Iron Man thinks this is a good idea. Captain America thinks this is a bad idea. Heroes pick sides and fight each other. Good times

X-Men vol. 2 #190

September 7th 2006 13:56
Wow Iceman, your tongue tastes like a Calippo!

It's fitting that my inaugural comic review for this blog involves the X-Men. Though they weren't my first comic book obsession (that distinction belongs to G.I. Joe, quickly followed by Transformers), the X-Men were the first superheroes I became addicted to, and have remained the most enduring part of my comic-buying habit. I'm a big fan of the characters, and remain so to this day
