Natural Healing Soap from Aleppo, Syria

November 2nd 2010 18:20
I learned of this beautiful natural soap from the Aleppo region in Syria that has an ancient recipe. The method for making it has been passed down from generation to generation and is a closely guarded family secret. Sellers of the soap claim that it was the first solid soap ever to be made and is made from entirely natural ingredients.

Aleppo soap is a healing soap that I like to have on hand, especially since I have sensitive skin. If you look at the bar, it doesn't look or smell like anything special but once you start using it, you notice a difference right away.

It's ideal for skin problems such as

** Rosacea
** Eczema
** Dermatitis
** Acne

and for generally sensitive skin. I have Rosacea so I keep a bar of this soap in the shower so I can wash my face with it. It cuts down on the redness and soothes any irritation. Could it be because of the ingredients or because there aren't any chemicals in it? It's probably a combination of both.

Chocolate Mint Lip Balm Recipe

July 7th 2010 17:11
I love chocolate and this lip balm is a way to get my fix without worrying about the calories. I love the addition of the mint but you can leave it out.

2 tablespoons grated beeswax
1/4 cup olive oil
1/8 cup coco butter
1 1/2 tsp. coco powder
1 drop mint essential oil

Add the beeswax, olive oil and coco powder to a double burner or microwave safe bowl. Heat (either over the double burner or in the microwave) until melted. Set the microwave for ten seconds at a time until it is melted. If you use a double burner, put the heat on medium.

Add coco powder and (optional) mint essential oil. Stir and transfer to a small glass jar. Let cool completely before using. Store in refrigerator to maximize the shelf life.

Lemon and Cucumber Water Recipe

June 25th 2010 10:28
My first encounter with this water was at the Spa on the Plaza in Monterey, CA. The spa personnel did a great job making sure we were always well hydrated when we came in for a treatment. The locker room and the sitting both had plenty of available water with little cups next to it. We were encouraged to drink our fill.

Every now and then they would have water that had both cucumber slices and lemon slices inside. I found the combination to be slightly tart and a little cooling. Perfect for a hot summer day! I have a batch of my own in the fridge as I sit here and write this.

Lemon and Cucumber Water - The Method

Slice 1/2 to 1 whole lemon. I use organic lemons because pesticides are concentrated on the skins and I find that icky. Add it to a big pitcher. Slice 1/4 of a large English cucumber (the ones that you take the plastic off). Place that in the pitcher. Fill pitcher with water, cover, and let it sit in the refrigerator until well chilled - at least one hour but the more the better.

Uses for your Lemon and Cucumber Water

Drink it. My favorite use for this is to drink it. We all know that staying hydrated is the very important for healthy skin and a healthy body. Plain water can get a little drab. This recipe adds flavor without calories.

Spritz it. Nothing helps beat a hot day better than spritzing your face with water. It helps keep your skin moist and hydrated and feels cool as it evaporates. The cucumber is very cooling and the lemon gives off a refreshing scent. You can spritz it on your too but even though the lemon content is minimal, you may notice that it lightens your hair slightly.

As a toner. This also makes a great facial toner. Apply to your skin after cleansing using a cotton ball. Follow up with moisturizer. You can add a little rose water, witch hazel, or aloe vera gel to give it a little something extra. With this recipe, I think aloe vera might be the best fit but it's up to you.

American women make the mistake of thinking that a special cream can solve all your problems. We purchase creams to ease dryness, control oil, diminish blemishes, get rid of wrinkles - and the list goes on. Each of these things can be greatly helped just by drinking water.

We all know we're supposed to drink plenty of water. It helps with weight loss, keeps us healthy, and enhances our outward appearance. But even though we know that, it is really hard to remember to drink enough. I know I personally find it challenging. Here are some tips that can help

Welcome to Naturally Beautiful

June 23rd 2010 09:48
I decided to start another blog here on Orble on the topic of natural beauty. I believe that having a healthy outside starts with having a healthy inside. At the same time, I think that you need to feed your skin with the right nutrients from the outside and stick to natural ingredients.

My approach to beauty care is a combination of making my own skin care products and buying products that are natural and ethical. This blog will be about both things. I'll share recipes for beauty preparations and give reviews on my favorite products and companies
