Sex and the city

July 2nd 2008 11:55

After all the long wait and anticipation, I finally get to watch Sex and the city, thanks to my work, I got myself two free movie tickets and so I went with my workmate.

It is just too hard to not fall in love with the movie, as I believe it has all the right ingredients that makes up a good enjoyable movie (well at least from the viewpoint of female audiences), it got the girlies' brunches, the stylish Manolo Blahniks heels, the gorgeous handbags, the dream wedding, the PR business and the newspaper column and last but not least, the constant search of a true love (in almost everyone's mind), and for some a plainly great sex (In Samantha's case obviously).

Their friendship is real, simple and beautifully flawed with real issues and differences between them. I love how different these four girls really are, but at the same time they are the same kind of woman, who value friendship and love.

Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) have delivered an outstanding performance in my opinion. I love the chemistry between them and I enjoy the sweet simple girlie jokes here and there throughout the film. One of my favourite funniest scene is when Samantha was planning a surprise home-made sushi dinner for her bf, and she layed down on her dining table covered in nothing but sushi.

With regards to Carrie's relationship to Big, I love how realistic it is, that Big has second thoughts and fear embracing the whole idea of getting married again. To my surprise, the ending was not what I expected at all, yet, I think it is even sweeter and better than my version of ending.

Kungfu Panda

June 23rd 2008 12:03

With much anticipation and excitement I finally watched Kungfu Panda and it is one of the funniest cutest most enjoyable animation I have ever seen. I have already fell in love with the film when I first saw the trailer. Jack Black as the voice of the Panda, has done an awesome job in my opinion, it feels like he somehow really brings the character comes to life. I love the idea how they pick big, obese, lazy Panda who is always running out of breath when going up the stairs, as the chosen one to be the Kungfu master, such an unlikely hero, which makes it even funnier and more entertaining. I also like the feel of the chinese ancient history, with all the kungfu training, and all the kinds of animals that they select to be the main characters, I mean...turtle is one of the slowest animal on earth, yet the Turtle was the turtle master to the big five: tigress, monkey, snake, crane and mantis.

The narrative of the film is done beautifully, the color of the animation is also perfect. I truly enjoy the fighting scenes, they look vivid and kept me on the edge of my seat. Finally, there is also a good simple moral message for all of us, that is sometimes we all underestimates our ability to be the best that we can be, we doubt our selves, but when we stop doing that, if we can stay focus and work hard and just believe in ourselves like others have believed on us, we will be surprised on how much we can achieve.

This film is a delight for everyone, make sure you won't miss this one!

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

April 27th 2008 13:40
If you like "Knocked Up", you will surely like this one, only this one is even better. This film has just the perfect combination of romantic and raunchy comedy. Some scenes are just very bluntly saucy and sexy, some are just plainly hillarious and some are simply sweet.

This film is what I called a romantic disaster comedy, it brings a disaster into something to laugh about. The story revolves around a loyal boyfriend PETER (Jason Segell) who is so adoringly committed to his long term famous TV star girlfriend, SARAH MARSHALL (played by Kristen Bell) and then out of nowhere cruelly dumped as SARAH went for another guy, a rising, trendy British rock star. The story gets even funnier when the very broken hearted PETER tries to forget his ex by taking out a Hawaian vacation only to find out that SARAH's travelling to the same island, staying at the same resort with her new beau.

In the middle of sorrow, PETER founds some companion and new friendship in the hotel receptionist, Rachel Jansen (played by that 70's Show's Mila Kunis), who keeps on supporting him and advising him to get back to his life and pursue his career dream that is to produce a stage dracula musical with puppets. Will PETER get over Sarah? Will he find a new love?

A very entertaining flick to watch and I'd give two thumbs up to Jason Segel who wrote the screenplay quite well in my opinion. It gives an honest insight to the mind of a male when getting dumped.

Awake

April 9th 2008 13:55
Two rising Hollywood young stars: Jessica Alba and Hayden Christensen are united in this thriller movie called: Awake.

The story revolves around anesthetic awareness, a rare occurence that someone can be awake but paralyzed during surgery. Hayden plays the main character, a man who went through a surgery, only to found out he was completely awake during the whole process, thus can still feel pressure and pain during the surgical proceedings

Lars and the Real Girl

April 8th 2008 11:37
This is definitely not your typical Hollywood film yet I wish they make more of this type of interesting film that is simply sweet, quirky and heartfelt. This quirky, weird film has evoked my emotions and touched me in a way I didn't expect. At first I thought the idea of a man bough a silicone woman is simply just desperate and rather pathetic, but as I closely watch the story evolves, I see more than just what's on the surface/face value. There's a change of attitude in me by the end of the film, that I didn't think of Lars as being too weird or pathetic, I actually understand completely how he feels.
I was so touched by how his community and his brother and sister in law, put such a massive touching efforts to play along with Lars' idea that a plastic doll is in fact his fiancee. Such a difficult thing to accept yet everyone in the community did it out of pure love to help Lars go through this delusional phase of his life.

Step up 2 the streets

April 3rd 2008 10:17
It's HOT, HOT and HOT. This movie is just so easy to be enjoyed, you don't even have to try! I love it from the beginning to the end. I prefer this one than their first smash hit, back in 2006. I reckon the dance are even more awesome in this sequel.

The story follows a journey of a rebellious cool, hot, street dancer Andie (Briana Evigan) in her struggle to fit in at her newly enrolled elita Maryland School of the Arts. I like one of the scenes, when she showed up in her first day, first class in school and was asked to dance in front of the class, and she was so laid back, and was just doing her own groove, with her messy street style outfit, oversize jacket, singlet, baggy pants with one legs down, and chewing gum in her mouth. So rebellious and very individual

Drillbit Taylor

April 1st 2008 07:40
This is one of my favourite Owen Wilson's film. I thought it would not be that good, but to my surprise this movie is refreshingly entertaining and funny. It kinda reminds me of Superbad movie, as the central charactes revolves aroud the lives of three young teenager boys played by Troy Gentle, Nate Hartlley and David Dorfman, trying to fit in and surviving their first days in highschool. Then came the typical bully, good looking kind of school bully, played by Alex Frost, who turned these three kids' life into hell.
Fed up of being the centre of the jokes in the entire school, they came up with an idea to find some sort of adult protection by placing an ad in the magazine, seeking a bodyguard. The story gets even more interesting when there was a scene in which several applicants were being interviewed by these kids, from different background. The applicants, one by one, rejected them as these kids unable to afford their price range. In the middle of desperation, came the last applicant of the day; Drillbit Taylor, whom is played by Owen Wilson, a down on his luck soldier of fortune, who lives a homeless life, living in a tent outside a beach.

Another collaboration of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton, showcasing their rather 'different' style of movie as always, and this time it is a big-screen adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s award-winning musical thriller “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.”

First of all, the biggest achievement I'd have to say is Johnny Depp can sing! I was unsure about this whole musicality thearetical thing as I haven't seen him in such film. There was a different level of acting involve to be able to pull up a character quite well in a musical thriller, and I reckon Johnny Depp had done a good job in it

Run Fatboy Run

March 9th 2008 11:42
This film is surprisingly good. I didn't know what to expect prior to watching it. Although I have seen the trailer few times, but somehow the trailer didn't get me excited enough to watch it. Somehow, I did end up watching the film and I didn't regret it.

One word, well make it two words to describe this film, are beautifully flawed and realistic. I like the whole idea that the movie started out as the leading male character played by a perfectly cast Simon Pegg, making a huge mistake of his life by abandoning his pregnant fiance (Thandie Newton) at the altar. I knew right there and then, that this is an interesting story to watch and my instinct was proven to be correct

Same thing happened to me, as I said, i wasn't expecting anything good of this film coz the trailer didn't grap my attention. Yet, when I decided to give it a go and watch it, the film was actually surprisingly good, i must have underestimated it.
