Actually my girlfriend hired this and I must admit I thought it was going to be what my mother would term 'a women's movie.' However I quite enjoyed it. Sure, it was a depressing portrait of a world in which everyone is lonely and desperate and motivated solely by self interest, but hey, I feel like the world's like that all the time anyway. You see, there is an upside to being pessimistic. And damn it that Dench bitch can act! It's like watching Ritchie Blackmore play guitar. Now, just to further cement my negative view of reality I will watch the Australian Idol auditions.

PS: at what video stores can we find Bloodspit and The Killbillies? Are they in the weekly section yet?

Writing about writers, it's as bad as rock songs about rock n' roll, or poems about poetry. Though you are right, no writer can resist a lead character who is a writer, or in this case the product of a writer's imagination. 'Adaptation' is one of my favourites, in which Nic Cage plays himself, and his twin brother, who are trying to make a film about a writer, played by Nic Cage... etc.
