NaNoWriMo Anyone?
November 1st 2006 18:49
Hi Folks,
I know it's been a minute since I posted, for which I apologize, but I have my hands in so many pies, it's to be expected.
Now, I've got my hand in the craziest pie of all ... NaNoWriMo. For those of you who've never heard of it NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writers Month during which some 70,000 writers around the world register on this site to write 50,000 words by November 30.
There are many gidgets, gadgets and widgets provided on the site to make things fun and to help keep track of your writing status. Once registered, you even receive a page of of your own in flash that looks like a real book and pages flip when you click next page and everything or if you're not too fond of flash, there's also a simple version.
So if you've never heard it of it and would like to try it... I encourage you to do so.
I know, right about now, someone is thinking ... but I'm not a real writer. Pish posh! This is about quantity not quality ... ergo, no editing, no spell checking... just writing... seeing where the muse takes you.
This time last year, I had no clue that a year later I would have a book published and more in the works ... but had I not tried, I would never have had the courage to take the writing project any further.
Did I publish my NaNoWriMo novel? Nope, I sure didn't but that exercise, gave me enough confidence to tackle other projects that had been on the backburner. What emerged out of NaNoWriMo 2005 was actually the meat for four separate books which will be published over the next three or four years via my publishing company.
It's not too late to give it a try ... go ahead, find out what's in store for you and your writing at NaNoWriMo 2006
Peace,
Dee
P.S. The Web site is a little slow today because it's day one and 70,000 registered writers plus the people we recommend it to, are all trying to log on.
P.S.S. How am I doing or what am I writing about? I'm doing fine ... haven't a clue what I'm writing about, but whatever it is, so far it's entitled "On the Subject of Age" and I've 602 words of it written towards my daily goal of 1667 words per day.
