My Weekend that INCUBUS Rock'd
The first concert I've been to by a foreign artist happened just last Sunday. And it's no less than the eloquently good rockin' music of Incubus.
Yes, I'm 26 and althoughseveral a ton of foreign artists have had their concerts here, I really only had the urgent and must-watch feeling for Incubus' concert, they've been here 3 years ago -- but I was pregnant, imagine me and my belly bopping around hahah! So I couldn't pass the chance last Sunday!
I wouldn't have dreamed of having this "first" with any other artist/band. Incubus rocked my first!
A rock band that doesn't create plain noise. A rock band whose lyrics actually are more profound than most people you know or more famous artists. Some may not understand a word they're saying by listening to the song, but try to get a hold of the lyrics to any of their songs, even the not so popularized songs, you'll love their thoughts and eloquence. I am in love with their songs and yes, although I'm a girl, I'm not into Incubus just because of this yummy-ness right here (hahah!)
Sure, I drool over that (and hubby knows), and bassist Ben Kenney just recently, but that's not why I had-to-go to their concert.
I first heard their songs about 8 years ago, and LoVeD it! I wasn't a "die hard" fan in a sense that I don't know each and every member of the band, I don't stalk them, I don't collect every single memorabilia and no I haven't created a fan site.
I love and appreciate their music to the very core. I sing and bob my head to it, but most importantly I feel the music and listen to the words. Their music isn't something that harvests or encourages angst (like how some people see rock bands/music), they make you think, they relate to you or make you relate to it -- without the angst. You don't even hear cussing in most of their songs, there are very few that will have some words but placed into the song very well.
Just recently because of the elated feeling they left me after the concert, I researched more about the band and found out 2 "I didn't know that."
1. Brandon Boyd has 2 published books of his art, drawings and a sort of journal of his thoughts while touring.
2. They have a foundation called the Make Yourself Foundation that aims to donate to one charity every year. All of their fund comes from anything Incubus makes as a band -- from concert tickets, song royalties, album sales, merchandise sales, etc. They don't ask for donations, and they don't accept any either. They don't even publicize it on their website.
How cool are they?
Read Brandon Boyd's (lead singer) blog on their website and you'll understand just what I mean when I keep saying they're eloquent and profound.
Or, listen to Aqueuos Transmission... the title itself speaks about it already!
Thank you Incubus for coming back and giving me the chance to experience your music Live!
--- edited to add the lyrics --
I'm floating down a river
Oars freed from their holds long ago
Lying face up on the floor of my vessel
I marvel at the stars
And feel my heart overflow
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
Two weeks without my lover
I'm in this boat alone
Floating down a river named emotion
Will I make it back to shore
Or drift into the unknown
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
I'm building an antenna
Transmissions will be sent when I am through
Maybe we could meet again further down the river
And share what we both discovered...
Then revel in the view
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
I'm floating down a river
I'm floating down a river
I'm floating down a river
I'm floating down a river
Yes, I'm 26 and although

You have beautiful blog design... your menu bar in particular looks mind-blowing!
I have only one CD of Incubus', but the only song I like on it is Drive. Wish You Were Here is okay, but a bit too heavy in the chorus for me. The lyrics you posted up are very good, though.
Glad you had fun at the concert, it's important to be inspired and renew your relationship with the organisations around you.
