My On-Purpose Diet
March 31st 2009 09:45
Yes, I’m going on a diet on purpose, but that’s not the catch here. The trick to my diet is this: I am going to make sure I include certain foods in my diet every day, and then the rest of my hunger will be satisfied by (hopefully) smart choices as I go along. I am stocked up and ready to go. For example, I want to make sure I include soy milk, almonds, fruit juice, fresh fruit, vegetables, string cheese, yogurt, and green tea.
The soy milk is something I started drinking for the numerous benefits of soy, including the protein-punch and antioxidants it provides. I like to drink it after a workout to help refuel my muscles and keep me feeling full.
I recently read that eating nuts can help you eat about 200 calories a day less than not eating them. They have good fat in them which keeps you feeling fuller longer. Plus, they taste good!
As for the fruit juice, fruit, and vegetables, those are just obviously good choices. I water down my fruit juice a little bit so it has fewer calories. The fruit and vegetables are to make up a large part of my diet. They have a high water content, so that volume helps satiate hunger. Plus, they have very few calories (for the most part).
String cheese is a great snack. I get the reduced fat kind, and I eat one or two a day. This gives me calcium, as does the yogurt, which is supposed to keep bones and hearts healthy and help keep off the extra pounds.
Green tea has been touted a fat-burner, but I’m drinking it more for its other qualities, like the antioxidants and such. To help burn fat, one would have to drink 6-7 cups of it a day. That seems like an awful lot to me. I guess that would be easier if cold tea counted, but it doesn’t. The green tea loses its effects only about a day after it’s brewed, so tea bags are the best way to go.
We’ll see how this works!
