My Kitten Keeps Getting Stuck

I have two kittens one-aged three months the other four months. Today my three-month-old kitten decided to cause a stir in the neighbourhood or at least prove to everyone what a bad mother I am by getting himself stuck up a large tree we have outside our house. It wouldn’t be so bad but he has done it before on more than one occasion. The first time my partner got the ladder out and got him down, he walked kitty down the tree backwards so he would learn how to get down. The second time we ignored him for half an hour while he squawked then walked him down backwards.
The third time it happened my partner was at work and I was home by myself. Let me just describe our property. We are fully fenced there is no way a dog could get on the property to scare him or chase him up there. Most of the time he runs up there it is because he can hear birds up there. I was not going to go up there after him because when leaning the ladder up against the tree it needs to be held in place as it is a bit unstable. I have an eight-month-old daughter so I wasn’t going to risk going up there and possibly falling down and breaking my leg or worse, and not being able to call for help. So he was just going to have to find his own way down.
I stood there and called; every time he turned around to try and come down backwards I praised him, but no luck. He was up there crying which broke my heart, and of course brought the situation to the attention of the neighbours and the guy who came to deliver a parcel for me. All looked at me as if I was mean. On the other hand, maybe they weren’t maybe I was paranoid and reflecting my own feelings about myself on them.
Anyway, my poor cat had to stay up there for 12 hours from 8am until my partner got home at 8pm. The poor thing once he got down I thought that he would want a drink and something to eat but he ran straight over to my eight-month-old daughter for a cuddle first.
On the bright side, his day in the tree may have taught him never to go up there again. Well maybe not for a while any way.

Quick question: can't you keep the kittens in the house? Three and four months is awfully young for a baby cat to be outside, fenced-in property or not. Mother cats look after their babies for at least a year, even if they do wean them at a younger age, till they've learned enough from her about getting along by themselves.
