Having recently moved to Melbourne town I ventured out of my now very familiar serviced apartment and into one of Melbourne’s dandy gig venues Ding Dong..
Not a random, spontaneous move on my part, rather a heads up from my very musically literate friend Shelley. She had told me about this amazing new on the music scene guy and his keyboard.. MUSCLES.. its literally this dude and his keyboard and its brilliant! By far one of the best things I’v heard and seen in….well a very long time..
Going to the venue with quiet high expectation I was ready to be disappointed. It is rear to come across truly brilliant artists .. in any field..
Having heard a rather average band with at max 15 people in the venue at that point, bar staff included, I was starting to wonder how good this guy on a keyboard really would be..
The first band finished, the lights dimmed, the in-between-the-bands DJ came on.
By the time I turned to have a sip of my bloody marry and looked back on stage, a keyboard appeared.. then a group of pretty indie kids in front of it, then a guy in brown 70’s Jonny Depp in Blow pants and an 80’s oversized black bomber jacket was standing behind the keyboard.. then the DJ stopped and …..and then my eyes light up simultaneously as his purple fairy lights display around his keyboard..
The first song was about his friend Jason who from what I can remember gave him acid.. And it got better because each song was just as exciting as the next.. He played Ice Cream(one of his better known songs) about 5 songs it to it and I think that sealed my love for Muscles.
His voice, lyrics and music all came together famously. You couldn’t help but move your feet..
I will happily bet my sole and all my designer shoes that this guy and his keyboard are going to the top..
Overall it was the whole package that made it so visually spectacular. Muscles would now and again smirk as he sang, then get out his little digital camera and say “sorry, just need to take some pictures for my MySpace page” …”your all going to be on the internet!”.. Adorable!!…
Anyhoo, if you live in Sydney or Melbourne you have got to check him out!! He is really good!! Or just go to his MySpace page!
