Mud Puddle

The armies line up,
mudstained and determined,
by the murky sea.
So dark and brown,
the waters are still
as the battle waits.
They are set upon one another,
the fighting is fierce -
some are lost,
others victorious,
to mourn brothers drowned,
and dead, under dirty brown waves,
such it is, in our imagination,
the child and the ocean,
the epic armies -
Until we grow tall, the world shrinks,
and the site of the great battle,
becomes a mere mud puddle.
