Sorry for the lack of posts......This may be my last one because I don't know if anyone is reading this. Appreciate any comments otherwise I may have to create my own blog.

Anyway I have been watching movies such as Twilight: Eclipse (for Taylor, RP fans), Killers (OK- Ugly Truth was funnier) and Knight & Day (trailer was better) but those are passe.

So yes Inception is the movie everyone is currently talking about. I must say I was looking forward to this movie and had high expectations especially with everyone saying this is the 'next new Matrix' movie.

I have to say Chris Nolan had me thinking throughout the movie to the point that i started have a headache ( and fell asleep for a few minutes lol missing a critical point in the plot) Thank gosh I didn't watch this in IMAX LOL

Don't go into this movie expecting alot of creative time warp action ala Matrix with slow mo 360 degree avoiding the bullet time scenes (though there was slow-mo & in particular a cool fighting scene with Joseph Gordon Levitt rolling around in the hallway as though he were in a barrel and jumping off the wall zero gravity)
The action & settings here reminded me of Dark Knight with most taking on the streets. It is more REAL and gritty not fantasy based like the Matrix which is good. Chris is getting good at that but I expected to be thrown more curveballs and surprises apart from the one scene of the hallway barrel.

Chris sure knows how to take a surreal concept like dreams and make it relevant in the real world though I think he was more successful with Batman than this one which is an original story. But hey who's to say it's a tough job for anyone to explain clearly the complexities and the subconscious of the human mind in 2 & a half hours. But I understood enough to go with the journey of this movie though I wish my dreams were that vivid in detail and action packed that I would remember it. (Dream within a dream within a dream within a dream......... Did I lose anyone? Who is dreaming?) For that I applaud Chris who wrote the screenplay and directed the movie.

You may notice a few familiar faces from Nolan's Batman movies - Michael Caine, Ken Watanabe, Cillian Murphy. They were good supporting players to Leonardo DiCaprio's spy character. He is looking more grown up and grumpy but couldn't get my head around him being a dad/husband. I still see him as the kid from Titanic and didn't buy into his relationship with Marion Cotillard who plays his wife.

This is worth seeing again to catch on any missing points but if there was a sequel I wish they would answer why it is easier to go back dreaming nightmares than go back to a good dream....... Explain that I dare you Chris!
Can't wait for Batman 3. Hire Joseph- He will be hot as the Riddler!!!!

Robin Hood Review

May 19th 2010 07:12

I think you know from the vibe this movie gives this ain't no gladiator.

Russell Crowe is pudgier here. I remember I had the hots for him when he played Maximus as did other ladies. For Robin Hood, I had trouble getting my girl friends to come & watch this with me. Not even Cate Blanchett appeal to them. I can see why as she has more a dowdy appearance. Darling brown is not your colour but I guess that is the point here. She is not supposed to be glamorous She is playing the tough Lady Marion- a tough, courageous fighter of a woman born in the wrong era. She can really play it with the boys!

I have to admit I didn't pay much attention to the politics only the general idea that the French are the enemy and trying to invade England with Sir Godfrey as their spy & accomplice under King John's nose. It was Mark Strong, the villain & not the hero I actually found to be sexy not Russel Crowe even with that horrible scar. It must have been the chain mail........

My mind is wandering to the colours. The colour palette was mostly brown which personally made me feel sullen but when it flies into the wide angle shots of the forest, the green really pops out & I was more happy!

The fights were fine & dramatic. There were a few good tactical moves but few awe inspiring apart from maybe when Robin in his Close Up fires his arrows.

Overall better than Kingdom of Heaven but that is not saying much.......Watch this with the boys! But I will watch Sex & The City 2 with the girls!

Iron Man 2 Review

May 19th 2010 06:52
I know it's been awhile since my last post but I've been busy with moving to a new place.

I'm going to try my best to remember what I've liked about the movie. The good thing is that it's not as bad as I thought it would be. The bads news is that it is not as good as the first one. The first one kicks this to the curb.

Key to the success of the first movie was the cast. If it wasn't for Robert Downey Jr & Gwyneth Paltrow returning, this would have been a bigger mess. That's probably why I went into the cinema with not much expectations after reading the early negative reviews. Don Cheadle replaces Terrance Howard in the Captain James Rhoes/War Machine role & though I like Don Cheadle, he is so miscast. Terrance Howard was a cool, funny cucumber when compared to Don's seriousness. He doesn't have the same playful chemistry with Robert Downey Jr. The next thing I want to say about the second one is that it has too many characters with all the famous names- Micky Rourke, Scarlett Johansson & Samuel Jackson but it could have been the script too. Or it could have been the director, Jon Favreau's fault. If he wasn't in the movie so much as Tony Stark's assistant, Happy Hogan & stick to the cameo role, he would be able to spend more time on the movie that deserves to be brilliant!

Micky Rourke played his part well but he wasn't given enough to work with. I would have loved to see more character development & more exchanges with Iron Man in the Monte Carlo Race scene which was probably the best action scene in the movie. Sam Rockwell as the rival to Tony Stark was annoying & his role should have been reduced. Boys will not be disappointed with Scarlett !

The visual effects here are not groundbreaking here & polished as the first one. I think I saw some distinct separation between Whiplash & the fake explosions in the smoky background. There was not a lot of montages over the gadgets that had me drooling in the first one apart from the internet table when Tony was looking up Black Widow's profile which was funny but the jokes in this movie was juvenile & toilet humour not smart & witty.

Overall the movie feels like it's a rushed product in a factory line manufactured quickly to earn big quick bucks for the studio. I would have prepared to wait longer. Hope the 3rd time's the charm!

Clash of the Titan 3d review

April 3rd 2010 11:42

Before I watched the movie, I admit I was worried about the movie after reading mostly disappointing reviews. But it didn't deter me from watching the film.....( what else am I going to do on good Friday where everything in Sydney is close) BTW I noticed the timing of this movie release is no accident.... Essentially a movie about man losing faith in the gods falling around the time jesus dying on the cross as man loses faith in the lord who is his father.......

How to Train Your Dragon Review

March 29th 2010 00:51
Yesterday I managed to squeeze in 1.5 hrs to watch How to Train Your Dragon in 3D after reading generally positive reviews & to see Gerard Butler even if his handsome mug doesn't show.
It didn't disappoint & it's one for the family. Young kids may not understand the story but they will enjoy the amazing flying sequences. The movie kinda plods along especially in the beginning but it is at the moments where Hiccup, our boy hero takes his pet dragon, Toothless that the movie starts to soar & take advantage of the 3D technology especially the depth of field as Toothless dives down to earth. The visuals are stunning though not as super realistic as Avatar but we're talking different market segment. Avatar is for older teenagers who like playing video games. This movie will please younger kids. There is even a nice romance between Hiccup & his girlfriend that reminded me abit of the 'Whole New World' scene from Disney's Aladdin (without the singing & the memorable melody)
