Calling all Trekkies and Trekkers!!!
As a youth, I was a big time Trekkie. I was raised on the era of Kirk, Spock and McCoy. Of course, my favorite Star Trek incarnation was The Original Series (TOS). So I had to go see Star Trek XI.
The day my boyfriend and I went to the movies to see ST XI, I didn't expect much of it. I thought, "Oh, no!! They're redoing the original." Usually, when an original is redone, it isn't as good. The late-great Gene Roddenberry is gone...there's all these newbies in the traditional roles....What was one to think?
I went to the movie not expecting much but came away feeling FANTASTIC about ST XI!!
First of all, kudos, kudos and kudos again to Leonard Nimoy for his role of Spock Prime in ST XI. He did a wonderful job and I was happy to see him in his legendary role. Other characters in Star Trek XI roles included Kirk-Chris Pine, Spock-Zachary Quinto, McCoy-Karl Urban, Uhura-Zoe Saldana, Scotty-Simon Pegg, Sulu-Jon Cho, Checkov-Anton Yelchin, Christopher Pike-Bruce Greenwood, Nero-Eric Bana, Tyler Perry heads Starfleet Academy, Amanda Grayson-Winona Ryder.
I love Star Trek because it is timeless. In ST XI, the villain, Nero, made you feel a genuine terror for the other characters. Some aspects of Kirk, Spock and the rest of the characters were left the same. Other aspects of the characters flowered into something(one) new.
Star Trek XI is out on video. So, pick up your copy. Whether you are a Trekkie or new to the Trekkie scene, you will love Star Trek XII.
Legion has very strong and vulgar language throughout the entire movie. This is definitely NOT a family movie. Also, it has quite a bit of violence.
The gist of the movie is that God has lost faith in humankind. So, He dispatches angels (who are more like demons) to destroy humankind. Arch-Angel Michael is placed in charge of this Legion of human destroying angels (demons). These angels inhabit the bodies of humans and use those demon-possessed bodies to wreak havoc on non-demon-possessed humans.
Michael decides that he doesnt want to carry out God's orders. Therefore, upon landing on earth he undertakes a new mission: save mankind. Michael feels that God should not have lost faith in mankind. Michael hasnt lost faith and still believes and he feels that God should have a little faith, too. Of course, God doesnt like having his orders disobeyed so he dispatches Arch-Angel Gabriel, after Michael, to force Michael to get with the program or to be defeated. Also, there is a pregnant woman in the movie who is apparently carrying the next Saviour of the world. This baby is who all the demons are trying to kill and going to great lengths to kill the baby. The Arch-Angels have a show down. At first, it appears that Gabriel wins the fight, sending Michael back to heaven in defeat. Suddenly, a "portal" (for lack of a better word) opens up and Michael re-enters the earth, whole, and defeats Gabriel. Michael proclaims to Gabriel that he (Gabriel) gave God what He wanted by choosing to obey Him, but Michael gave God what He needed (which was for Michael to disobey God and to embark on his own mission of believing in humankind). The woman, the baby and the man who believes in the woman, apparently go on to forge their own way (or something like that).
My problems with the movie: God isnt going to send angels/demons to destroy humankind because they are the apple of His eye. Besides, God already has a plan in place to save humankind. The baby thing has already been done. Jesus Christ came to earth in the form of a baby. He grew up and died on a cross and resurrected for our sins. That is God's plan for mankind. It's already taken care of. This movie is contrary to that.
My review for Legion is "thumbs down" for language, content, accuracy and violence. This movie calls God the Father, the Creator, the Saviour of the world the bad guy. Again, "thumbs down" for Legion. My advice is if you want to see Legion is to save your money until one of the networks pick it up and hopefully will edit it for language and content.
