Feral Island
May 25th 2012 04:46
Something I have noticed lately is the amount of ferals that seem to be around. For those of you who are not familiar with the this term, let me explain it to you. Ferals are the kind of people with no ambition, no morals and no other goal in life then to seek plearsure. No matter what the cost. These people can usually be found hanging around the local train station. They are often off thier face on the latest intoxicant and will stop you in the middle of the street in order to enquire if you "have 40 cents for a phone call"
Many of these people have criminal records as thick as a phone book. Americans would call them "White Trash"
Has anyone actually considered how much difficulty these people cause the rest of us?
The Australian Institute of Criminology has released a paper assessing some of the major costs of crime for a range of offences. The overall cost of crime in Australia amounts to nearly $32 billion per year, which is nearly $1,600 per person and five per cent of GDP. The total cost of homicide is $930 million, and homicide carries the highest cost per victim, equalling about $1.6 million. Assault costs $1.4 billion per year, with an average of $1,800 per assault
Thats a lot of money no matter how you split it. Further more to this discussion, think about all the resources devoted to keeping people like these in line. There's security guards at local shopping centres. There's security cameras in those shopping centres. Then there's scanners, electronic tags and last of all the insurance taken out on the products just in case they do get stolen. These are all extra costs, which are passed onto the consumer.
Then theres the cost of putting on more police officers, medical staff and the power that these unions wield over governments.
I, on the other hand have a credible solution to this and prison overcrowding, and it's not the death penalty. My solution is "Feral Island". Imagine an expanse of land somewhere in the Tasman Sea. It would be built on landfill. This place would be located close enough to reach by plane from either Tasmania, New Zealand or Antarctica. However, it would be far enough out of the way that people would have trouble getting off the island without outside assistance. The rules are simple: Once a person is labled a feral, then they are put on this island and that is it. From time to time, thier is a shipment of livestock, tools, raw materials, plants and seeds. Some phamplets are also handed over with information about how to best utilise these. Before arriving on the island, every new member would be sterlised so they can't give birth. The message would basially be this to all those who want to take freedom and liberty for granted: "There you go guys. You would rather act like animals then human biengs. Well you can do anything you want here, we don't care. Have fun. If you live, you live, if you die, you die."
Let me make this clear. I'm not talking about people who have made a couple of mistakes in thier life. I am not talking about someone who goes to prison for unpaid parking fines. This island would specifically be reserved for the proffesional lowlifes. The ones who have been given opportunity after opportunity to build some kind of life for themselves and have instead chased after pleasure at the expense of everything else.
