North Korea has once again tried to stir up things by testing a short-range missile off of its coast, which could prove disastrous. North Korea is a ticking time bomb that will ultimately destroy itself in the end and a definite challenge for the Obama administration for its entire term.

There needs to be some crucial diplomatic talks with North Korea or else we would have to do something drastic because we cannot have them threaten the peace of the world. If that fails then we should impose even more sanctions on the country, we need to send the message that this type of behavior is not acceptable at all. Or even try to remove Kim Jong Il from leadership because he is leading his country down a dark path with an uncertain future.

It is quite ridiculous that Bush has not tried efforts to remove him from power, as he had done to Saddam Hussein. I believe that both dictators are in the same vein and should not be the leaders of their country, they are power-hungry narcissists. Hopefully the Obama administration will react well to this startling news of more missile testing and further down the line, develop some good strategies on how to deal with North Korea for the sake of the world.

So, with the revealing of one of the most historical nominees to the highest court in the land, Sonia Sotomayor comes a lot of flak from the right. She is a Puerto Rican woman, the first of which would serve on the Supreme Court and the third woman to hold such a distinction- so it would be quite a battle for Republicans to block her nomination.

Some, including former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, former Congressman Tom Tancredo, and radio personality Rush Limbaugh are touting Sotomayor as a racist that should withdraw her nomination. This accusation seems quite ridiculous and only a ploy to tarnish her image for the public; it comes with no real examples or sense. Gingrich even states that she would receive a double standard stating that a white male racist would be withdrawn, other than a latina woman. This is ludicrous, she is an ideal candidate that has no racist tendencies and this is a pathetic attempt from the right to denounce her candidacy.

I feel definitely that there will be a battle from the conservative side in Congress, but I feel that she will be confirmed easily. Not only is she quite qualified but also that Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton felt as if she was a prime candidate for the judgeships that they appointed her to. Also, with her appointment, it would fill the void of outcoming Justice David Souter, who was moderate but frequently voted with the liberal side of the Supreme Court. She is not some overly liberal voice in the judicial realm but rather an impartial judge that can make fair rulings that are based on the facts of the case and is a prime candidate for Associate Justice on the Supreme Court. And, I hope that this will set a precedent for future appointments- diversifying the Supreme Court slowly but surely.

Welcome to my Blog

May 27th 2009 19:06
Hey, welcome to the newest political blog on Orble, which is aptly named Moderate Politics- which details my view on politics as a whole. I take a moderate stance and throughout my postings you will see what I mean, I am neither a die hard liberal or a staunch conservative and I feel that there is no need for either. I will cover current events and give my slant on the current matters. I will not force any of my views on anyone and I hope that you all will enjoy what I will post.
