Miu times two
July 3rd 2008 13:45
A great deal of the immaculate pieces we see on the runways have us "ooh"ing and "ahhh"ing, but how much of it could we practically wear? That is, if we even had the opportunity to...
The collections are not for mere folk like you and me. They get shimmied on the catwalks, and end up only on the likes of Nicole Kidman and Natalie Portman. I guess that's why women either fall into two categories with designer fashion - shoes or bags. Because these can be somewhat attainable, and wearable, unlike a $24,000 contraption by Victor & Rolf (bless them!). I mean, could we really expect to trump up to a party in elaborate silk organza dress, which will stain on contact with water, complete with 42,000 Swarovski crystals blinding passerbys, and have people understand?
That's not even touching on the whole little consideration about how models have some God-sent ability to make a garbage bag with flies et al look like high fashion- and we don't.
The most recent exception (bar the price tags) is Miu Miu's last collection. I cannot describe how much I adore the innocence, playfullness, and downright perfection of Miucca Prada's hugely sucessful diffusion line. The warm hues compliment the workable clash of patterns, and the flair of the fabric are works of architecture...
Let the feast for your eyes begin!
Mmm...but I'm not full yet.
