Failed Policies

Man the Presidential race on the Republican side has gotten crazy. Tim Pawlenty Dropped out and Rick Perry is moving in full force. I was a little upset with Governor Pawlenty dropping out so early but who knows, as soon as we get a nominee for the Republican Party, he just may be a running mate. Who knows, maybe one of the front runners have only ready approached him about it.

Even though the Presidential race is starting to gain momentum, President Obama is going to give his speech to the nation about how we can create more jobs. Ok, he has been president for about two and a half years now and he is finally addressing the nation about how to create jobs? Also, the reports are out and for the month of August ZERO jobs have created for the US economy. What the heck is he going to say? Well...at least we didn't lose any jobs! XD Do you really think this man should be lecturing the nation on how to create jobs when the unemployment has gone above 8 percent under his watch? The other day, Comedian Jay Leno said "the economy is so bad Obama asked 'is it too late to blame Bush?'" To answer Mr. Obama's question, yes it is too late. It is time for you to take responsibility of your failed stimulus and failed domestic policies!

What do you think?

July 19th 2011 00:05
The great things about blogs is that you can get on and just type your opinion with no objection! I love it but I also love discussing. A the beauty of a republic is that it is a collision of ideas. What do you all think that our government should do? Do you think that the constitution needs a balanced budget amendment to balance this budget? All comments are welcome!

Financial Fiasco

The numbers are out! The national unemployment rate has once again reached over nine percent. Now more than ever bitter partisanship is happening on the Hill and Senator Chuck Schumer of New York provides a perfect example. Senator Schumer stated that Republicans both in the House and Senate are using the debt ceiling to gambit their intentions for 2012. Democrats like the New York Senator substantiate this claim by unveiling a quote from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnel of Kentucky: "I refuse to help Obama's reelection." When I first heard this, I thought, in the words of Matt Foley, "lawdy freakin daw." Of coarse Sen.McConnel would say such a thing because of his affiliation with the Republican Party. So I guess when Republican leadership shouts out the obvious, that clearly means that they are playing politics with the deficit.
For those that disagree and believe that Republicans are doing this for their own political gain, I can honestly say I know where you are coming from. What better way cultivate chances for Republicans to win in 2012 than to crash the economy under Obama's watch? But the fact of the matter is, this is not the intent of the Republicans. They view this whole fiscal crisis as a family check book. When a family has maxed out its visa card, they dont use their american express to pay it off. (Great way to earn sky miles though ). That is what the liberals in DC are suggesting. They are suggesting that we increase the debt ceiling in order to avoid default. You know what, our leaders where sent to DC to make the tough decisions and not to make every single American happy. In the words of Bill Cosby, "I dont know the key to success, but the key to failure is to try to please everybody." It is time that our leaders make the tough decisions that they were sent to make. It is time that we americans make sacrifices for the better of our nation. It is time that we put the words of Kennedy into action by asking what we can do for our country instead of asking what Uncle Sam can do for us.
In this deal, I think concessions need to be made by both sides of the party. I think Democrats need to agree to spending cuts and Republicans should agree to a few tax hikes. You cant spend, tax, or cut your way out of this recession. Our credit cards have been maxed out and our leaders need to put their country first instead of their party. This bashing, just like Senator Schumer has demonstrated, gets this country no where and it just exacerbates the problem

Today I was at work and during my lunch break I do what every other 18 year old does when they have some free time on their hands: Check the facebook news feed on the my iPhone. I saw how all my friends were doing and discovered who broke up with who and who was getting into the dating world. But after seeing all of those juvenile posts, I came across the pages of one of the Congresspeople that I like. His name is David Schweikert from Arizona's fifth district. I admire Congressman Schweikert because he seems like an honest man who puts this nations fiscal success at the top of his list of priorities. When he was on the floor of the house he gave an AMAZING speech, here is the link if you guys want to watch it Really Long Link and he gave this eighteen minute speech on the floor of the House. Although this speech was amazing, this is only a partial reason to why I am writing. On his page he posted a link from the GOP website and it brought the "Balanced Budget Amendment" back to the table. You may be asking yourself why does the balanced budget amendment sound familiar? This was brought to the table under the Clinton Administration and it failed in Congress by one vote. The GOP is offering this amendment as a solution to our debt problem.
For those of you that dont know what the balanced budget amendment is "the formal definition is any one of various proposed amendments to the United States Constitution which would require a balance in the projected revenues and expenditures of the United States government" (Source: google web definitions).
I know that I may sound like a broken record when it comes to our national deficit but its going to ruin everything from our foreign policy to our citizens faith in our government. Someone once asked Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of staff, what is the biggest threat to our national security? Mullen responded "Our national debt." Here is a decorated military officer, who has knowledge far beyond you and I, and he is saying that our debt is the biggest threat to the US. American Citizens are always asking for a solution to our problems and here is a solution to our biggest problem. In order to get this MASSIVE debt under control, we need a constitutional amendment to keep our government and its leaders in check! That is why I think that we should urge our representatives to support an amendment such as this.

Jokers out First

July 10th 2011 22:48
The other day I was watching the Colbert Report, I love that show by the way, and I saw how Michele Bachman received a cease and desist already in the Presidential Race. After announcing her candidacy for President in Iowa, she played the song “American Girl” by Tom Petty and she has been using that song on the campaign trail. Even though I am a conservative I thought that this was funny because as an attorney she should have known that she needed to ask permission to use that song on the campaign trail because of copyright laws. Rep. Bachman is trailing Governor Romney according to some Iowa Polls. I think that it is ridiculous that Michele Bachman is doing so well in the Republican Primaries because it just goes to show how hypercritical political parties can be.
In the 2008 election, John McCain and the Republican Party laughed and bashed President Obama’s campaign because of his “lack of experience.” He was a three-year junior senator from Illinois, and before that he was a state senator and community organizer. Michele Bachman does not have near the experience Barack Obama did in 2008. Congresswoman Bachman has only been a congresswoman for five years and before that she was a state senator. Ok, so she had more years in congress but a senator has more influence than a congressperson. A senator gets to deal with Foreign Policy and they confirm nominees to the Supreme Court, federal courts, and the Presidents Cabinet. The House of Representatives don’t get to be apart of the confirmation process and usually there are more representatives in states than senators. There are some exceptions like Maine, Alaska, Deleware, etc. Its candidates like Michele Bachman, Ron Paul, and Rick Santorum that just make the party nomination process in this country a joke! The nomination process for President of the United States is a lot like a deck of cards. What you should do first is take all the jokers out first so the game can go more smoothly. Mark my words, all of the candidates except Huntsman, Romney, and Pawlenty are going to drop out before super Tuesday next year.

Where's our change?

July 1st 2011 06:16
The poor senators in our nations capital won’t be going to their home states to celebrate the forth of July with their families and constitutes; instead they will be negotiating the debt ceiling with their senate colleagues. The past few weeks has actually been quite dramatic with this “Washington Broadway” whether its senate minority whip Senator Jon Kyl walking out of the Biden lead budget negotiations or President Obama wanting to raise taxes and go back on the deal that his administration cut with the Republicans earlier this year. Both major parties have been going back and forth negotiating tax cuts and budget cuts. Republicans want to make some serious cuts in Medicare and Medicaid and President Obama called this “On the border line of immoral.”
Lets take a quick step back for a moment. I am personally insulted by our President’s statement. I feel that was a disrespectful slam that was counterfactual. I understand that in our nations “class warfare” the middle class thinks that the millionaires of this nation are just sitting in their leather chairs lighting their cigars with hundred dollar bills but the fact of the matter is, that is not how it works. Nine times out of ten, these millionaires worked hard for their current financial status instead of falling butt first into cash. You know I think is really immoral? I think it is immoral for the Democratic Party to propose an increase in tax rates on the rich who provide jobs for our economy and worked hard for that money. Now those who can’t afford health care, my heart goes out to them but it is not the upper classes responsibility to foot the bill. I know that my views may seem a bit extreme and I know that I may sound like a heartless millionaire; but I am actually a concerned college student that comes from a middle class family. The reason I am so passionate about this is because I think our government should reward those who work hard by letting them keep as much of their earnings as possible. I personally don’t wont to work hard and build myself up to millionaire status all just to get taxed in the end.
I know that it may seem juvenile for Republican leaders to walk out of the budget negotiations. But I think it is juvenile for all of our government leaders letting our debt get this high and out of control. I am so sick of politicians promising us change in Washington instead of business as usual. Instead, they utilize tactics such as class warfare and they politicize things near and dear to our hearts such as the education of our youth. We are about a year off from voting new leaders again. Instead of voting for a candidate because they have a “D” or an “R” next to their name, how bout we vote for someone that puts their money where their mouth is. Politicians will say anything to get into office. Obama said he was going to turn this economy around while he voted “Present” over 70 times when he was in the Senate. He even voted against raising the debt ceiling in the Senate and now he has a change of heart because he is one of the biggest supporters for raising the debt limit. With unemployment above nine percent, the debt over 14 trillion dollars, and our economy only growing at a rate of two percent, it looks like we got screwed on the change

The big, the bad, and the crazy!

June 28th 2011 04:52
Now that we are about half way through 2011, the Republicans are making their preparations for the 2012 elections. With the House already controlled by Republicans, the Senate vulnerable to losing more Democratic seats, and the White House with an approval rating of only 43 percent according to Gallup, the Republicans have a good chance of taking it all back as it was before 2006. Even though the Republicans have a good shot at taking it all, that does not mean that it’s guaranteed to happen. The Republicans have to put up someone who will appeal to the independents, has a record of balancing budgets, and most of all they need to put up someone who has proven leadership.
Currently, there are some crazy candidates that are battling it out for the nomination. For example, Ron Paul stated that he wants to legalize drugs such as Heroin and Marijuana. If that were not crazy enough, he also stated that under a Paul Administration, he would vouch to legalize prostitution. Paul is a libertarian. He doesn’t want to legalize all of this because he likes to shoot up some heroin while being with his prostitutes (at least he hasn’t been caught on Twitter doing so). Paul wants to legalize because he believes that the government does not have jurisdiction to tell you what or what not to do. In other words “who is the government to tell you what you can and can’t do?” Although the idea of that is nice, a country conveys what it condones and condemns by legalizing and illegalizing. Lets take the gay marriage issue for example. The Republicans are not against it because they don’t want homosexuals to be happy, they go against it because they don’t want our country conveying to the world “we think that this is acceptable.”
Also, there is former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. I personally don’t like him as a candidate because he is a hypocrite. He stated that he is against ALL abortions, NO EXCEPTION! However, he encountered an ultimatum in his personal life; he could either have the child or his wife. The Santorum’s aborted their baby even though this “pro life” senator stated he was against all abortions. A reporter asked him about this and he said in response ““Abortion in any form is wrong…Except for my wife. If your wife’s life was at stake and the only thing that could save her was an abortion, well, too bad. Your wife will have to die. It was different with my wife. You see, I love her. I don’t even know your wife’s name.” Our country is in need of strong leadership at this time! Because of Santorum’s hypocrisy, I think the United States would be better off without a President Santorum

The Debt is too Damn High

June 26th 2011 07:16
For the past few weeks President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have been meeting with Congressional leaders to resolve the debt crisis that we are currently in. With the vote in the House of Representative approaching quickly, there has not even been a rumor of a deal being made with the debt ceiling. Majority leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) made an appearance on Fox News Sunday this past April. He explained the Republicans stance on raising the debt ceiling by juxtaposing the problem to a family with a credit card. “When they're engaging in their fiscal affairs and trying to manage their budget, when you hit the max on your credit card, and you don't know what to do, first of all, you got to learn how you got there and not commit the mistake again. If you're going to get an increase in that limit, I think most people would say OK, let's make sure that we're doing everything we can to not spend the money again.” Congressman Cantor makes a good point. When you have maxed out your Visa Card, you don’t use your Discover to pay it off. However, Cantor also stated in the interview that Republicans would be willing to raise the debt limit if Democrats guarantee to limit spending.
Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner had contrary views to the House Majority Leader by stating that raising the debt ceiling is vital to keeping our nations economy going. Secretary Geithner stated in a letter to Sen. Bennet (D-CO) “A default on Treasury debt could lead to concerns about the solvency of the investment funds and financial institutions that hold Treasury securities in their portfolios, which could cause a run on money market mutual funds and the broader financial system -- similar to what happened in the wake of the collapse of Lehman Brothers. As the recent financial crisis demonstrated, a severe and sudden blow to confidence in the financial markets can spark a panic that threatens the health of our entire global economy and the jobs of millions of Americans.” Geithners argument backed by a stick is nothing but fallacious. He’s trying to coerce congress to raise the debt limit so we can attempt to spend our way out of this recession.
All in all, this whole “rob Paul to pay Peter” budget tactic is not working for our nation. In 2008, we had a President-elect that promised us change in Washington. We most certainly got it. We have a national unemployment rate over nine percent, expanded the influence of the federal government, and since Obama has taken the oath, over four trillion dollars has been added to our deficit. It is time for America to balance its checkbook by cutting back spending, and get our economy moving again. It is time that we Americans stand and say that our debt is too damn high
