Mexico is a very interesting and broad culture so there is alot to see and do. Mexico is a place of many contrast including belief structures, celebrations, scenery, wildlife, architecture and the list goes on.
For people who love pyramids this article will be for you. I plan to do a series of articles all relating to different things to do and see in Mexico. This one will focus on the Mayan culture.
A few interesting facts about the mayans is they have a 260 day calendar opposed to a 365 day calendar. Another interesting fact is that they have a 13 day week as opposed to our 7 day week. The astrology chart is completely different with different signs and symbollic meanings. It is hard to understand the differences without being there. One of the sights that help to explain certain cultural aspects of the Mayan's is Chichen Itza. This is one of the most famous archiological sights in the world and for good reasons. With the ruins surrounding the area there are many tales to be told and is a must see. Just amazing. This is for young and old to see, it is one of the most spectacular sights i personally have ever seen and strongly recommend it to anybody young and old.
Imagine this, a ball game that resulted in decapitation of your teams captains head. This is how decisions were made in Chichen Itza. to find out more get your butt down there.
The best way to go and see Chichen Itza is to go on a day tour out to the villages which leave everyday from Cancun and surrounding areas. The tours are around 10-12hours however much worth the trip. You even get to try some more traditional cuisine outside of the tourist regions.
Make sure if you are heading to the east coast of mexico include Chichen Itza into your must do and see.
Cheers
