Menya Ramen

Menya Ramen is hardly tucked away in an exclusively chic alley, and almost verges on fast food; but don't let that stop you- Menya Ramen's food and service is incredibly fast and high quality.
located at shop 146a, 210 La Trobe Street, Melbourne Central, this place is always busy. You might have to share a table squished next to a stranger in the tiny restaurant, but the quality, as well as quantity is well worth it. There's usually a line, but the waiting time is deceptively quick.
The Teriyaki Chicken, Teriyaki Beef and the Gyu Beef Don are all fantastic, and only around $8. The Beef Don is packed with ingredients- enokitake mushrooms, additional noodles in the rice, and proper peas- gasp! I've also been pretty impressed with the gyoza here, it's not overly oily, which can be a fairly common problem. On the tables there is a selection of chili powder/ chili oil, all super hot.
My favourite thing about this place is that I usually get 2 meals for my $8, considering I've never finished an entire bowl. You can easily grab a take away container (they're stacked up near the tables) and take half your meal home! Or feed two (most likely poor uni students) for $4.
