Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticise them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes = )

And to close...Paris on the cheap

Bonjour tout le monde!

L'Arc de Triomphe
L'Arc de Triomphe by day (this picture is licensed under the GNU Agreement and can be found at wikipedia.org)

Well guys, I’m very sad to say that this is my last post on TravelFrance. But to go out with a bang I’m going to give you some information about going to Paris on the cheap. Being one of the most beautiful cities in the world, it is also one of the most expensive!!!

Accommodation is probably the most expensive thing. Unfortunately, I don’t have tips except to check out the youth hostels.

Shopping. Do your research thoroughly because there are often local markets held in Paris.

Going Out. There is a local gig guide which comes out every week. It’s written in French (obviously) but it’s still informative!!

Museums etc. If you’re a history buff, every Wednesday most museums let students and pensioners in for free. Definitely worth a look!!

The best research for travel on the web, though it may sound weird, is from Wikipedia. The information’s not spectacular, but it has several links for mot countries to their official sites. On the other hand, Lonely Planet is a great resource!!

Paris is an expensive city, but so is a lot of France when you think about it. But to me, it is a must see destination in the world. Thanks so much for reading my blog over the past 6 months. I’ve had a heap of fun. Check out the other posts on this blog: I'd like to think there's some useful information in them.

Just looking at that gorgeous picture makes you want to be there!!!
Best wishes and I hope you get to France one day.

Le Lido WANTS YOU!!!

September 22nd 2006 22:21

Bonjour tout le monde!

Remember way back in March how I reviewed Le Moulin Rouge? In that article, I mentioned another cabaret place called Le Lido.

Well…Guess what? Great news!!!! Dancers are needed for Le Lido in Paris and they want Aussies!!!!

It seemed a little weird to me that breakfast television this morning kept talking about a cabaret show in Paris. Intrigued, I watched the report (Sucked in by advertising I know…) and found out a little bit more…

Le Lido is a cabaret theatre on the Champs-Elysées in Paris. It doesn’t have as grand a reputation as Le Moulin Rouge, but apparently it still puts on a great show!!!

So, if you think this is you, check out the official website and apply. A great way to work and see France I suppose!!!!

See you soon
À bientôt

Sailing into La Rochelle

September 22nd 2006 08:02

Bonjour tout le monde!

The first time I heard about this place, I was intrigued. It was in my Year 9 French text book. Desirée and Roger decided they wanted to go sailing at La Rochelle over their summer break and because Roger was a rich spoilt brat, off they went.

The real place though, is much more interesting, even without the love birds.

La Rochelle is a town in western France and a seaport on the Atlantic Ocean. It is the capital of the Charente-Maritime département and its harbour flows out into the Pertuis d’Antioche, a protected strait.

The town itself was founded in the 10th century and very quickly became an important harbour city. Until the 15th century, it was France’s largest port and traded mainly wine and salt.

The next major event for La Rochelle was during World War 2. The Nazis established a submarine base in the town’s main port. It became a German stronghold and was the last French city to be liberated at the end of the war. A siege took place from 12th September 1944 and lasted until Germany surrendered on May 7 1945. French troops entered La Rochelle the following day.

The climate in La Rochelle is similar to that of the French Riviera, although it is on the same latitude as Montreal in Canada and the Kuril Islands in Russia.

La Rochelle’s main attraction is the Vieux Port (or Old Harbour) in the very heart of the town. It is a great place to go out at night because of the seafood restaurants which line the shore and the beautiful walk along the harbour walls. The port is also popular for sailing because of the little inlets and canals all over the country.

See you soon

Wow!! Have a fantastic time! Be careful of the cold...I've heard Paris is bitterly cold in the winter.

Hi Ariane
Thanks so much for the comment. It's nice to know that people are still reading my blog!!

I agree that the garden should be considered one of Monet's masterpieces in its own right. He designed it, so it should be recognised as a work of art.

Thanks for those links. I'll make sure I check them out. They will be very useful for all other readers too!!

I hope I can make it to Giverny one day. From what I've read it is a beautiful village. Thanks again

A bientôt

I suppose you can look at it that way.

Once the Allies had a foot hole though, they could easily break their way through German lines. All to do with the terrain I believe.

Thanks for the info about the real Private Ryan. I didn't know anything about that. I thought the story was fictional, thus the title...

It's a fantastic love story movie. It's no different to any other Hollywood flick except it's got two male leads. I don't see what the fuss is about!!

on The stress of dance competitions

August 28th 2006 07:21
I didn't even know they had competitions like this. It's really incredible. Being part of a jazz troupe especially formed to do eisteddford, we spent entire weekends in makeup and costumes. They were so long, boring and the worst part was you had to watch all the other dances being performed, which were so much better than yours!!!

Congrats on winning the final. That's a pretty amazing achievement. Best of luck for the national finals!!!!

I watched that show on Sunday (I have a thing against Idol and didn't watch Prehistoric Park, so I was stuck. It was awful!!!! I admire Todd McKenney as a dancer/performer/singer, but he is really bad as a presenter!!!!

He's not THAT bad. He's going to win though cos of the Today show. His number goes across the bottom of the screen every 5 minutes!!! Is slightly unfair though...

on Le Scandal Uncovered: Part 1

There have been reports that traces of sythetic testosterone were found in his blood (it was going to be a discussion on my post tomorrow...), however, the only information I have found is that his overall levels of testosterone were high. This may be completely natural, although blood tests seem to have ruled that out.
I'll see if I can find out that info for you. It would be interesting to see if he's partially telling the truth...

Thanks for the support!!! It's pretty intriguing though.
