media responsiblity to make the world a better place

February 24th 2008 12:26
"All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing"
We as media creators and a global media audience need to make an effort to do better. to not continually be concerned with the almightuy dollar, but actually care about others, about the well being of our audiences rather than dictating their fashion or attempting to get them to buy various products that they neither need nor want. As a member of the journalistic community I feel that we don't have a enough civic focus. we need to actually play a part in pushing solutions to the problems that we report on. I know, I know that may come close to interfering with the impartiality of our trade, impartiality is important, however what stops us from bringing together stakeholders to help resolve issues, or perhaps helping efforts towards mediation between parties.

Can it be done? I don't know? but i would really like to try.
who's with me ?

I admire the idea, but on an obscure blogging web site you hope to achieve, what exactly?
Front page of a daily newspaper maybe - or on the 6 oclock news - but here?
I scratch my bald old head...

I guess your're right, I know that this is an obscure blogging site, but small things beget big things and I have to start somewhere.

My Nickname is and I'm a disgustingly positive person who pretty much smiles all the time, it is funny that the first comment I get is from grumpy!!!.
I understand that to change the "status quo" will be a challenge, but just because it is hard does not mean it is not worthwhile. If I reach just one person it is a triumph!!
christopher Koch wrote that:

"You have never lived until you almost died,
and for those that protect them life has a flavour that the protected will never know."

Change is like a rolling stone, to get the stone rolling takes the most effort, once it has achieved sufficient momentum it requires little effort.

Possibly because - regardless of the name, which has its own humorous connotations - I am one of those committed people who troll new blogs to try and prove to myself that there are in fact other intelligent people out there. Usually I am disappointed.
Your quote I understand only too well - having been both close to death and a protector. My own side of the argument is that one must hold up the qualities, the excellence of life, the things which are natural and ever reproduce the true connections with our soul - hold them up so that thety too are not lost in a sea of mediocrity and unconsciousness.
My own absolute belief is that such things are simply non-negotiable.
