Me In Love with The Nonsectarian Theosophical Society
March 31st 2008 15:46
Wow! I am damn in love right now!!! Very very in love!!! With who? With the truths presented in the Theosophical Society!!! It is my lost found love of truth! I'm now pregnant with it,
Upon an invitation from a friend who works full time as a hypnotherapist, I got the priviledge to attend a free 'Course in Theosophy' lectures held by the Singapore Lodge Theosophical Society. All the staffs there are volunteers who has their own full time job but couldn't ignore their deep compassion to share their treasure of knowledge with the public.
When i got to the place at 6.30, a meditation was being held and i was kindly asked to remove shoes and step in quietly if i wish to join the meditation. I started from the sudden halfway of the course, quickly get myself seated and start meditating just like everybody else was doing in the room. Just before i closed my eyes, an image across the wall slipped into my mind, it was the theosophical society's logo. What was written on it stumbled me, "There is No Religion Higher Than Truth". Damn! I knew right then this is the study group i have been looking for to join all this time in my life. Finally at last, i am face to face with it in this real world, not just in documented videos or books or heard-says, at last i found, a nonsectarian philosophical and non-dogmatic style of pursuit on truth! My first time there, my whole body trembled overjoyed with this jewel lodge i was then sitting right at. I could see from their seal/logo that their findings of truth comes from many esoteric teachings and thinking from many various thoughts and discipline, such as esoteric Christianity, esoteric Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Caballah and many others that common people may not be so familiar with.
I explored the postings on its wall and noticed some interesting things i think i'd like to share here, especially this:
I grew happier, i knew this is the place i would call 'heaven' whenever i get the chance to visit the lodge. The place was small, just the size of average two bedrooms, but the people who gathered there and the principles of seeking truth they live on are very beautiful. Beside the lecture room, was another small room as the library, but was only available for members.
Membership here in Singapore lodge i found out would cost one around 60 singapore dollar annually. Not that they were making money out of it, but the funds were used to maintain and sustain their lodge, even all the staffs who were all volunteers there i believe were not paid, the extra money as well i believe goes to improvement of the lodge, buying new books, or cash savings. I noticed they do have a shelf of theosophical books for sale, so i browse around and was happy knowing how very affordable and cheap each book are being sold at, regularly a book would cost $30-$40 singapore dollars in a bookstore, but here i saw their own books being sold at price around $7-$12 Singapore dollars or more depending on the thickness of the book.
Being a member means one may borrow the books at their library for the span of 4 years per one borrowing, and are priviledged to attend special members-only courses, talks, lectures that are held by the lodge every Saturday. I got with me several pages of what kind of courses, lectures and talks they have to offer, and as a metaphysician and a student of the esoterics, i could just say out a big WOW!
This lecture i was attending was the first meeting out of 7 meetings over the span of 2 weeks of the free introductory course to theosophy. The details of what it covers can be seen here at its website. If you happen to come to singapore and on the right time, be sure not to miss attending the free lectures. Whoever you are, this is a must-try listening, for whoever you are, you should try seek the answers to the fundamental questions such as ,'why we are here?', 'where do we come from?', 'is there life after death?', does heaven and hell exist?', 'are supernatural feats real and how does it works?', 'how does the universe and human physical and nonphysical bodies operate?' and so on. Regardless of whether we agree or not with their answers, they still nevertheless do provide us with ways of looking at things and the universe that we can put to our consideration at will.
Even me as philosopher and metaphysics who have been delving deep into such matters for many years, i was surprised and awed that unexpectedly i learned still a lot from just that 3 hours lecture that ends that first meeting. Many unexpected new knowledge i obtained from them. The lecture of that day was about the different planes of nature; the different bodies of man and the different vehicles of consciousness. Of particular interest are the invisible worlds around us and the different levels of consciousness. This lecture must be of great interest to those who would like to know more about the auras of man.
The Theosophical Society is very humble and does not threaten anybody's current belief or even trying to convert anybody, the theosophical society is not even a religion! It is non-sectarian, it is a community of people who endeavors in the pursuit of truth or you may say they are life philosophers, the lovers of wisdom. They are just like scientist investigating the world mysteries and laws, just that their realm of investigation is more in the invisible and the non-physical matters. What they seek is the universal laws of how things and everything works. Just like gravity, denying its existence won't change the fact that if you jump out yourself from a building you will fall because it is the way the universe works.
Learning theosophy ideas many people have found, not only does not pose any threat at all to their background beliefs, but instead the theosophy ideas reinforce and deepen their understanding of their previous spiritual/religious background, for theosophical society deals with the esoteric teachings of many traditions/religions, not exoteric (read what i mean with esoteric and exoteric and what it does have to do with pursuit of universal truth here).
I myself wish i have the time and all the memory to retell all the wonderful many knowledge i obtained from that short 3 hours lecture (the lecturer also mentioned that the 7 meetings for that course is like excerption of 50 theosophian books), but i then i think it would be better if one go see and listen it oneself, they have the diagrams, illustrations, images, and structured way of presenting the information, plus you may be able to make up new friends/teachers there, so those are the many reasons why i'd recommend you to check it out yourself directly.
So again...if you happen have the chance, i would be sorry if you miss it. The pursuit of truth should be the endeavor of every human being, and there is no religion higher than truth than truth itself!

The three declared Objects of the Theosophical Society are:
1. To form a nucleus of the Universal Brotherhood of Humanity, without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or colour
2. To encourage the study of Comparative Religion, Philosophy and Science
3. To investigate unexplained laws of Nature and the powers latent in man
