Well anyway once you are here be sure that you will be able to gather tips and ideas on how to look perrrfect for that brand new guy you just met. Better yet, you can look great for the sexy guy you still have. Because as you know its not just about getting a sexy man its about keeping him...nuh true!

What The....

March 12th 2008 04:19

So I'm rushing this 2500 word paper for Caribbean Sociology Class, you know that paper i just had to be delinquent about. Far be it from the mental masturbation of procrastination, or the late night tiredness that kicks in as the culprit for loopy ideas to write in an academic essay. The aha! moment came when i thought if I can quote books, other academic papers, websites and newspapers... why not films?

Come on! Its not a new idea. Many academics study film as a text- a medium of cultural artifacts that constructs social myths and "realities" that inform our immediate environment. Enough with the academic BS already. Most moviegoers are not really interested in that type of analysis. The primary reason for going to a film is to be entertained. The feature length of the portion of our leisure time does not afford us the liberty to think beyond the silver screen magic.

Why does the "black" tranformer, Jazz, is the only autobot that dies in Transformers? Bombart, why are black people generally killed off first? When will I actually see a non eurocentric science fiction? Star Wars, Star Trek and Twilight Zone were great but man i need to see black peoples problems in futuristic setting from a third world perspective! Is there really no money to be made by investing in films like these?

Whatever. This is just my own little perspective. It seems that without some professor urging you to become more than a passive viewer in the cinema or loving film so much you official become labelled a film geek, you would sit quite nonchalantly consuming whatever HollyWood dishes at you with out discerning the gold from the garbage.

My First Music Video

January 21st 2008 17:59
Here is my very first attempt of becoming a music video director.

Click here to see my video

Song: Jail House

Artistes: Zion Star, Jah Angel, Jah Disciple making up the Jah Creation Family

Type of Song: Reggae

Director/Camera/Editor: Me, Maurice Garcia aka Ego Garcia

Camera used: Panasonic DVX100A

Lighting techniques: Sunlight was our main keylight, however we always used a reflector made out of silver foil glued onto a piece of ply board to "fill" in some light on the artistes for the day time shots. For the night shots we used one floodlight which my "lighting technician" held and sometime shaked to create a strobing effect.

No. Shooting Days: Two

Post Production Tools: Adobe Premier and Adobe After Effects

The African in Film

February 16th 2007 00:05
Yesterday I indulged my inner nerd and actually burrowed some books from UWI's library. Nope, not books for any of my courses but things that I'm interested in. What else but film?

I got two books Black City Cinema by Paula J. Massood and Slaves on Screen by Natalie Zemon Davies. The interesting part is to actually see what we commonly observe in mainstream filmmaking intellectualised on an academic level: the fact that the African is still under represented or grossly misrepresented in films and media

Writing the Script

October 12th 2006 20:26
Everything starts with an idea. A concept. You take your messy mind and you try to put it to use. You write down that idea. And somehow it does not seem as grand as you dreamt.

So you rewrite it. And you rewrite it again. You think visually. What would appeal to an audience watching my film

Creating the theory for C'bean Film

October 12th 2006 04:00
This blog actually serves two purposes. Firstly I would like think of it as a personal research blog, if there is such a thing, where I regular post my internal thoughts about filmmaking for the Caribbean Filmmaker from my readings and field observations. And secondly to share this info with like minded persons. I am only a student but I have two years television experience and this also informs my view on Caribbean Films and Filmmakers. I will be also be begging my readers for any info whatsoever about film screenings and the times and access to seeing these films. My biggest complaint is that it shouldn't be hard to see Caribbean Films. As a matter of fact I would have investigate this availability of Caribbean Films sometime in the future.
However for my research I have concocted the following assumptions from general observations. Feel free to email me your comments to me at egocentral@gmail.com:

Rare Breed

October 11th 2006 00:18
Caribbean Filmmakers are a rear breed. As a Trinidadian Media and communications student pursuing a degree at the University of the West Indies in Mona Jamaica, I have encountered many like minded individuals. We all want to make movies. We all have interest in photography and cinematography. We all follow film news, go to cinema often or download atrocious quality pirated versions and then chat about what we liked or didn't like about each film.

So then what's the problem
