I mentor these bloggers

Learn more about the Orble Mentoring Program.

I do not mentor any bloggers.

When it comes to blogging on Orble, what are YOUR rights and responsibilities - a crash course in 'reasonable' expectations.

Orble is an great network, with a diverse group of talented, interesting, and inspiring writers. These writters form the Orble Community; a community which makes Orble what it is - one of the best networking options for bloggers around the globe!

Sometimes though, just like in the non-cyber world, diversity comes between us and before you can say "chopped off" the community is in affray.

Over the last couple of days, I have read several posts attacking Jon and the Orble Team over a range of issues... but is Jon (Orble) really to blame?

When you create an account, you have to agree to Orble's Terms and Conditions.

These Terms and Conditions state in plain language what we as bloggers on Orble are responsible for. Let's examine them below:
__________
Terms and Conditions

You must agree to these Terms and Conditions in order to blog on Orble. Starting an Orble blog indicates that you have done so.

You will not post offensive material in your blogs. This may include but is not limited to racist or pornographic material. We retain the right to alter or delete material on any Orble blog without notice if it is deemed offensive or for any other reason.

You will not post anything that will cause you or On Topic Media to have broken the law in Australia, the United States, or the United Kingdom.

You are responsible for any copyright infringements on your blog including text, pictures, and video. We will provide guidance but ultimately you are responsible for making sure any material you use is copyright free.

You will not plagiarize. Quoting is fine, as long as it's attributed. If you get a tip from somewhere else, or find a piece thanks to another blogger, individual or publication, give credit where its due.

You need to actively monitor your blogs to make sure that all material posted on your blog by others that may be illegal or offensive is removed quickly.

You are not an employee of On Topic Media. As such, you are responsible for your own taxes, benefits, health plans, etc.

You are responsible for your blog's success. We will do everything we can to promote your blog from a network perspective, but ultimately you will succeed based on your talent, and how much your readers enjoy what you write.

On Topic Media retains copyright over the material on each blog to protect ourselves legally. In practice we do not stop bloggers editing, deleting, or using their material for other purposes such as books. We do ask that the material you publish on Orble blogs is not duplicated elsewhere on the web without asking us first. If you have a specific reason that you wish to retain copyright over your work contact support@orble.com.

We're fine with you using your talents in any way you see fit so long as those don't negatively affect On Topic Media. You can write for other publications, you can even write for competing blogging networks.

You will not share confidential information with non On Topic Media staff, founders or bloggers. We're not entirely sure what that confidential information may be, but any information marked as such isn't to be shared.

To receive a 50% advertising commission for your blog and posts you need to have your own Google AdSense account and provide Orble with your AdSense Client ID. In the future we may provide your commission through other advertising systems or companies. If you do not post on any Orble blog for more than 60 days your AdSense ID will be removed from our database and you will not receive an advertising commission. If you start posting again after 60 days you will start receiving your commission again for all your posts and blogs however you may need to re-enter your AdSense ID.

It is important for the Orble community that as many domain blogs as possible remain active. To retain control of a domain blog on Orble you need to submit at least 3 posts (250 words or more each) of good quality per week. This is not an absolute rule however if you post less than this we reserve the right to remove your blog from the network or assign control to another blogger. We do try to contact bloggers if their blog has been inactive for some time, however if you have not posted on a blog for more than 60 days we may assign that blog to another blogger without notice. If a blog is assigned to another blogger all your old posts will still be attributed to you and you will retain editorial control of those posts. If you are going on holiday or will not be blogging for some time for any reason please let us know at support@orble.com.

It is your responsibility to make sure that the email address you have registered with Orble is working and that you check it regularly. We recommend that you place admin@orblemail.com into your email program's contact or address book. This is especially important for free email accounts like Hotmail, Yahoo, or GMail.

On Topic Media retains ownership of the domains which blogs are hosted on. However you can sell control of a blog along with any commission it generates as long as it remains on the Orble network (a good analogy is that each blog is like a MacDonalds franchise, you can sell the restaurant but it has to stay a MacDonalds). If a blog is sold On Topic Media will have first right of refusal and we retain the right to approve any buyers. On Topic Media must be notified before a blog is sold. If your blog becomes inactive or is assigned to another writer you lose the right to sell your blog.

On Topic Media may alter or add to these conditions at any time. If there are any changes you will be notified through the Orble News Blog. We recommend that you subscribe to this blog.

On Topic Media PTY LTD
__________

Now, as this site is in English I will assume that each of us have at least an elementary understating of the English language - this is all that one needs in order to comply with, and adhere to the above Terms & Conditions.

Orble is a free site, a site that one presumes costs On Topic Media quite a deal of money to run. Like any commercial venture though, I also presume that On Topic Media operate Orble in order to turn a profit for it's owners.

We are not contractual obligated, or even obliged to write on Orble for any purpose other than a personal desire to. And that folks, in my mind at least means if your unhappy with the site your free to move on to greener pastures.

Lets give Jon a break, put our differences aside, and get on with what were here to do - Blog about what ever it is that makes us happy!!

Earlier this week, the Nixon Presidential Library released over 150 hours of audio recordings; the bits I've heard definitely make you think twice about why it's called the 'White House'.

Of particular interest are sections in which he discusses Vietnam, and the Roe v. Wade decision that essentially legalised abortion. Along with a number of racial slurs.

The Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade in January 1973, removing most restrictions on abortion. President Nixon told his special counsel Chuck Colson that even though he believed abortion encouraged permissiveness, it shouldn't always be out of the question.

Nixon said, "There are times when abortions are necessary, I know that, you know that's when you have a black and a white."

Colson: "Or rape."

Nixon: "Or rape."

In another of the candid and sometimes coarse conversations released today, the President muses about anti-Semitism.

He's talking to Evangelist Billy Graham - and worries about reaction to the Washington visit of Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir - because Israel has just shot down a Libyan passenger plane.

"This anti-Semitism is stronger than we think, ya know. It's unfortunate, but this has happened to the Jews, happened in Spain, it happened in Germany, it's happening, and now it's gonna happen in America if these people don't start behaving. It may be they have a death wish, that's been the problem with our Jewish friends for centuries," said Nixon.

Replied Graham: "Well, they've always been through the Bible at least, God's timepiece. He has judged them from generation to generation and yet used them and they've kept their identity."

On Inauguration Day, 1973, on the phone with Colson, President Nixon, ruthlessly pragmatic, justifies the Christmas bombing of Hanoi as necessary to break the deadlock in the Paris peace talks.

Nixon said: "We all know this whole awful hysteria about the bombing has been a media-created goddamn thing."

Colson: "Totally."

Nixon: "But when you come down to it the bombing is over, we're going back to the table and we're going to have an agreement."

South Vietnam's President, Nguyen Van Thieu, felt pressured by the Nixon administration to agree to the peace deal, fearing it would be the end of South Vietnam.

Alexander Haig, then Henry Kissinger's deputy, reported to the President.

Haig said, "He basically feels that he's been screwed, he knows he has no alternative and he's gonna come along, he told me he was."

Nixon replied, "He's gotta comply or it's his a**. It's his a**, not ours this time."
- from CBS

What are your thoughts? Have we, as civilised people moved beyond this; or do Nixon's ideals still flow freely in the veins of our neighbours... discuss.

FreeRice

June 24th 2009 06:09
For many millions of people around the world rice forms the basis of their staple diet. Sadly, this cheap grain is priced out of reach for many people living below the poverty line.

You can help!!

FreeRice is a non-profit website run by the United Nations World Food Program. Our partner is the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University.

FreeRice has two goals:

1. Provide education to everyone for free.
2. Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.

This is made possible by the generosity of the sponsors who advertise on this site.

Whether you are CEO of a large corporation or a street child in a poor country, improving your education can improve your life. It is a great investment in yourself.

Perhaps even greater is the investment your donated rice makes in hungry human beings, enabling them to function and be productive. Somewhere in the world, a person is eating rice that you helped provide. Thank you.

We all love cheap price rice, but what we consider 'cheap' is sometimes greater than a persons entire yearly salary!

Play FreeRice today and give to somebody in need - FreeRice... A little rice goes a long way

I'm utterly disgusted that the so called 'Civilised World' will invade a country and kill 1000's for Petroleum and Minerals under the name of Democracy, yet spew their Apostle Christian beliefs onto Nigeria, and turn a blind eye to Helen Ukpabio's endorsement of child massacre and abuse in the name of the Lord within the State of Akwa Ibom.

In a country of 140,000,000 - 98% of the population believe in Witches & Wizards which embody themselves in children. Killing the child and torturing the child is common behaviour. It's enough to make you sick and deeply disturbed

Do you like Little Boots?

May 4th 2009 13:57
There's just something about miniature things that appeal to me; don't get me wrong though, regular sized things are equally as likeable... just not in such an 'awwwwww' kinda way.

In keeping with the miniature theme, here's some Little Boots - my favourite new YouTube discovery!!! yes I know, she's been round for sometime... what can I say, I'm behind the twitters, ahem, times [ Click here to read more ]

To say that I am stunned would be an understatement. I'm utterly flabbergasted! Yesterday I had to put up with porn on the homepage and today I'm faced with vile comments from one of my peers

Hi Janet,

Yes, some people have just been doing the rounds whining about Jon; I just thought "That's enough!"

Jon does do a lot of good, and sometimes we just need to acknowledge that we're adults, and most of what occurs on this site could be resolved if we took responsibility for our own actions.

I was actually inspired by your etiquette blog which is a great guide for all - keep up the good work!

Damo has used his presence on other blogs to threaten me and other bloggers

Has anyone else been threatened or harassed by Damo lately?

I must warn you that today, I have implemented a Three Strike Rule - similar to the one suggested by a former Orble member a few months ago; I believe his name was a backward bird.

If you continue with your agenda driven comments, on which you are certainly not an authority, I will have to Chop You!

on French Considering Burka Ban

June 25th 2009 10:09
I agree that religious symbols don't really have a place in a public school; but I don't think people should be stopped from displaying their faith on their person.

For example, I don't think the Public school down the road from my house should have a Crucifix in the foyer, though, if any students or staff wanted to wear a cross on a necklace then that is their decision - and in my opinion it is their right to display their faith on them.

I don't think the French government have really considered what they are doing if they do in fact ban the Burka. That are making a public statement that people are not welcome to display their faith on their person; in a manner that has a very limited effect on others.

Are they going to ban children from wearing baseball-caps? Surely wearing one backwards is a pretty subversive act.

I am a supporter of the separation of Church and State - but I don't think an individual is either the Church nor the State... so why do they have to be separated from their faith?
