Dear Mr. President,
February 20th 2010 15:50
I don't mean to be critical.
Okay, I do.
The thing is, the media is complete hype.
-The people want to hear about what a bad job you're doing. They give it to them.
The thing is, they'll attack the president no matter what he does- same with any other 'celebrity', for lack of a better word. (For example, when Miley Cyrus had messed up teeth, the media was blasting her for that. She then got them fixed, and the media was angry at her for trying to look perfect in an imperfect world, and setting standards too high for girls.)
The thing is, you can't let this influence your decision to go forward. Yes, I've disagreed with many things President Obama has said or done, but I know he's trying to fix the problems this country have and movie it forward at the same time.
Do more research, though. When giving stimulus packages, get an agreement to hire so many jobs for X amount of time. Know the community, and who really needs the help. Make more government jobs, and hold conventions. Yes, this may make our debt worse, but it always gets worse before it gets better. As soon as the economy is up and running, then other things will fall into place.
The homeless/jobless rate is what's worrying me now. Not as much the environment, as much as I try and help out.
Another thing- Congress needs to stop worrying about smaller things. Too much time is being spent on it. As bad as this may seem, come to a decision, and stick with it until you can get back to the issue once the bigger things are resolved. Someone out there isn't going to like it, back most of the time, there's someone who doesn't agree just to disagree.
Back to the president.
You talked about all these grand ideas in your campaigns that were, in fact, reachable. They weren't impossible dreams that most politicians set for votes- they were simple solutions to big problems. The thing is, as soon as you were president, you received major backlash, among both congress, senate, and the people.
But believe me, there's more people supporting those ideas than hating them. They are the same ideas you came up with while running, and we voted for those ideas and goals. But, of course, the bad media will make more of an impact than good, and those will be noticed by you. Newspapers write for controversy, not to make you feel better for yourself. The thing is, you just need to go with your instinct, and start setting time limits for how long you want to work on a project and how much you want to spend, then introduce it. The feedback will either be good or bad, but you have to listen to both sides. And I mean listen. Find out what each side likes and dislikes about the plan. That's the great thing about solving problems in groups- one single person in the group may know a better, cheaper and more efficient solution than the one you've suggested, and you can change accordingly.
Don't be afraid of the people's opinions, because they could help save you. And I really do think that you believe this, but you are the president, and don't need the help that we have to offer. Believe me, you do- not in a way that demeans your presidency, but in a way that it will help it. If you get a million ideas instead of one, you will surely get the best idea possible for the moment.
I have plenty more suggestions, none of which will settle with the current tone of this entry. Good luck.
