Man Lessons - by Deorre

Master Debator

May 21st 2007 22:42
Has anyone been watching the "debates" on television? You know, those presentations where the candidates of both political parties are given the opportunity to express their most popular talking points. Relatively softquestions are proffered, and they all have a chance to answer or not answer. If they don't answer, often they will go on to something they are more prepared to address.

THAT'S NOT DEBATE!!!!!

Isn't debate when two or more individuals face off on a subject and demonstrate their in depth understanding of the issue such that they can prove thier point in the face of their opponents counterpoint?

Maybe I'm just old fashioned. Yet, I don't think the public is aptly served by these opportunities for poll-driven sound bytes that each candidate thinks may put them over the top.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

It hasn't gone unnoticed by this little black duck.

Media is being snowed over by television time hogs using filla-busters to avoid difficult answers.

I could blame poorly trained interviewers but it takes two to tango.

I think people notice this kind of answer also.
Just have a listen to question time at parliament and you will see the training ground.

here, here! since shrub has taken office and avoided situations where real questions will be asked candidates now find themselves in sanitised environments to avoid being seen as human than robots.

i must say from what i can gather the republican 'debates' are garish with each candidate trying to be more conservative than the other. especially with 'america's mayor' who has taken the more expedient route and changed his relatively progressive views on abortion and gay marriage and embraced the more scary rhetoric of the hardcore right.

I am particularly offended by the way the mayor implies that 911 is something only he knows most about because he was there. BS!!!!!!!!!!

I saw documentary footage of the Scopes trial..now THAT'S debating.

Where along the road did we turn down the alley of brainless fili-blustering and muckraking and one-upmanship?

Maybe we're devolving.
