Marley and Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog
This book was a christmas present to me from my ever loving (and wonderful) husband. I'd read about it in the Summer of 2005 and thought it would be a good read. And I sure was right. You don't need to have owned a pet, let alone a mad dog like Marley (or in my case, Golden Retriever Whiskey) but if you do or did this story will be held more dear to you.
It's about the Grogan family who after a little while of married life decide upon adding to their family of two by buying a Labrador Retriever puppy who as you've no doubt guessed they call Marley. The embark on a long journey together through happiness, sadness and what always seems like destruction on Marley's part. Their family soon grows and Marley and their love for this big goof of a dog too. There were tears of sadness and laughter from my eyes while reading this and a many happy memorey was brought back of my old dog Whiskey who had way too many similar traits to Marley.
You can guess what is going to happen at the end of the story but you're still compelled to read through to the end. I had tears streaming down my eyes while reading the last few chapters but a happy smile of my face at the end.
I would go so far as to say that I would probably put this book in my top ten favourite books and already have the urge to read it again.
If you haven't read this I highly recommend you do so.
Sarah.
